Default DIY: 99-00 Civic Baby Carseat Mounting

So this is what I came up with one day, trying to mount the base of the car-seat really secure to keep my 2months old daughter safely transport.

lower anchors & latch retrofit.

Tools:
Drill/Driver
Metal Frame Screws, to avoid drilling then use regular screw.
2xMetal hinge I found extra from the cabinets
Laptop bag straps which I never use.

you can find similar or better metal hinge, straps and screws at Lowes/Home Depot.

1. There's one screw in the center which holding the bottom seat you need to remove that 10m bolt before you can remove the bottom seat.

2. The best location to mount it is on the passenger side, I first try to mount in the center, but there's the hinge for the two piece back seat rest in the way, so I have to move to passenger side.

I just use two Metal Frame screw and screw it directly to chassis

3. I use the Metal frame screw to screw first to make the hole, then use one of those bumper screws with big flat head extra in my tool box, secure the laptop straps with two screws

4. at this point you're pretty much set!

5. mounting the base! this is what the laptop strap will do to secure the front of the base so it doesn't swing at all

now you have lower lower anchors & latch to secure your base like new car does!

Happy transporting your baby!!!

Just curious why you didn't use the car seat mounting brackets near the center high mount brake light?

That's for mounting second step up car seat for baby older who can sit facing toward the windshield not for infant with base facing the back seat. Also my 99 Civic DX doesn't have those top attachments or lower anchor! if it does, I never had to go this route.

imo it looks like a death trap, I wouldn't trust those belts to hold the seat

the strap is use to secure the base so it doesn't swing

I did read and a few hours researches on securing it on the civic. with just the belt like shown on this pix

with it install like that myself and my wife don't feel it's safe enough with it swinging too much on turns/stop, take off. So I'm combining that with the base secure. it wouldn't hurt to make it more secure then the limited design of car and car seat.

As you can see in the diagrams I posted, the 2000 Civic sedan (4D), coupe (2D), and hatch (3D) models have the anchors.

I didn't see any on my 99 Civic DX: 4d Sedan but will triple check that today after I get home from work.. I'm 99% sure there isn't one for my DX.

I think the anchors are specific to 2000 models.

the 99s didn't have them in the car from the factory, but they are available. the threaded holes are there though.

Nice to know! probably they start having it on 2000 model... those could be nice to use to secure your sub-woofer! lol, that's my next mod on my tC, it got 6 anchors & 6 latch more than what I need to secure the car seat on a coupe.

I think they're connectors for the rear wheel ABS sensors.

RonJ is right. in 00 the child seat anchors were made mandatory. They are options on all 96-99 civics. If you look in your owners manual the part number is printed there for you if you wanted to order them.

wow!!!, you think you are making it safer for your daughter by using non load tested bumper screw and self tappers into sheet metal? i have 2 kids and belts work just fine. you just have to get in the car and kneel on the base and pull hard on the belt it should tighten up and stay tight.

don't you think it's time to start driving like adult slowing down, on turns, braking and acceleration???

my main point is securing the base so it doesn't swing, when the regular belt still being used. I have 4 yrs clear driving record so don't bs with me. just my .2 cent if you don't like it gtfo...
