Default h22 or turbo?

ive got a 91 accord that needs speed. i was almost sure i was going to drop an h22 into it now im not so sure. ive been hearing conflicting opinions. ive been told that i am right on with the h22 and i have also been told that turbo is definately the way i should go. that motor i have has 160,000 mles on it, thats why i was thinking of geting the new motor. i would of course get the j-spec h22. any advice would be appreciated

well from what I understand, the F22 series of motors seem to have more durability than the H22s. I suppose it depends how much boost you're running too. I'd look into doing both, which is what I've been looking into. (90 EX here). With 160K on the odometer thoug I'd opt personally for the new motor. I have 145K on mine and it's just between getting the H22 and saving for a new car, since the chassis is getting old.

my thing is i went h22. i feel that i could spend a few dollars there and start off with ok numbers.. there is alway build up from there.. if i went with turbo f22.. where else do i go? where is there room for improvement. besides little things here and there?

You have a few choices, rebuilt our present motor and install a turbo system, at 6-8 lbs you should be fine, anything after that requires a Fuel pump, Stand alone ECU(in my opinion), definetly a fmu, and proper guages to monitor activity,

If it is an automatic, I would not modify A thing, But if it is a stick, and you want a little more power a mild turbo setup a\on a fresh motor is the best way out,

It all costs, a good turbo kit with everything you need will run around 3500, and to rebuild your engine that will cost anywere from 500+l If you can do all the work/labor, it s even better,

Ignore those that post non sense to raise their post count!

haha...this is funny...anyways...i strongly disagree...the accord is basically one of honda's best stock platforms for a turbo setup....8.8:1 compression pistons are a good start and stock rods will hold for at least 250 hp....anyways...stick or auto, it's still an accord...modify it...i have even heard some arguments on an auto tranny handling boost better than a 5 sp. but it is all opinion...anyways...a rebuilt motor is not going to cost you $500....you could probably do it yourself and spend around $150 in tools and parts that need replaced...i recently helped a friend assemble a GSR motor and patience is the only skill needed...it really is a lot easier than i expected...so if you are one to hop in and just modify your car regardless then go for it...and if not, go for it anyways...the best way to learn is through experience, and that's one thing you can't get off the internet!

well i have an auto and my times will be good to great when i am all done. they wont be as good as if the same setup was on a stick i understand that. but autos do have some potential. plus its always a good thing to be able to start spooling your turbo from the line. and you dont lose boost during shifts.. no matter what you got. get it better thats the bottom line
