I recently went away for 10 days and I came back to my 94 hatch cranking but won't start. Prior to me going away the car started every time and ran perfectly. Engine is b16a (1st gen)but it has a td44 dizzy (came with the swap never ever gave me problems) running a p28 ecu. I checked the thermostat ground, and my fuel pressure gauge (its getting fuel), the main relay, and the dizzy and did all the troubleshooting I could with the multimeter and everything checked out fine (im pretty sure I read everything right). I cleaned up the inside of the dizzy cap, checked the wires, and spark plugs. If there's anything else anyone can think of that I haven't already done please respond.

Today I got the car to crank over, no idea how, and it stayed on for about 10 mins with no idle problems or anything and then cut out.

 

What car? OBD0 ECU?

So the fuel pump primes, right?

Any CEL codes?

Bright white spark at all four plugs?

I think I may have weak spark because the spark wasn't bright white but I didnt want to jump to any conclusions since this started happening out of nowhere.

What color was spark?

 

It looked orange

 

Sounds like a bad coil. Resistance test it. Also have an auto parts store test the igniter unit.

 

I ordered a new dizzy ill see if that fixes it because i'm almost positive thats the culprit

 

Unwise strategy^

It may become very expensive replacing parts without doing any diagnostic tests.

 

Well I got the car started again for about 5 mins. I went and revved it and it hesitated between 1.5 and 3k rpm but after that I let it go to idle and it eventually died. I rechecked the spark and it was orange not white at all. I came across a good deal on a dizzy so I bought it.

 

New dizzy fixed the problem
