Pros And Cons Of V8 Swap? Any comments?
Hey everyone... This isn't a Honda-related question, but I know you guys will have some input...... A friend of mine is contemplating putting a V8 into his Eclipse... I believe it's a 2000 or a 2001 (new body style), and he says that he wants to drop in a small V8, for reasons unknown to me.
Aside from the obvious problems with converting his FWD to RWD, anyone got any thoughts on this kind of a swap?
I say that with the money he's going to spend on custom fabricating pretty much EVERYTHING associated with the swap, from mounts to rear end, he could build one hell of a forced induction system and be faster. I think the weight difference alone would be the determining factor... A V8 is gonna be REAL heavy, and I don't think all the suspension work in the world is going to help...
You guys are the pros, and you helped me alot with researching my B18C swap, and I just wanted your opinions to pass along to him... So let it fly!

Does he want to do it for power or becasue he wants to say that he has a V8 in an Eclipse?
I say if he wants to go for full drag, and I mean hardcore drag, then huge displacement is the place to start. The place to start I say, because a lot of huge displacement engines need a hell lot of work to make the kind of power that would justify this kind of swap.
So unless he's going for ridiculous horsepower, then there are easier ways to achieve power than swapping in a V8. Let me reiterate what I said: if he wants to do it, do it all the way. Otherwise he'll end up like the dude I saw with a RWD V8 Ford Festiva (Fiesta?) pulling high 13's.
Actually, scratch all that. Can he give one valid reason for not simply getting a Trans-Am or something? Seems to me that putting a V8 in an Eclipse would be the answer to the question that no one asked....

I never heard of dropping a V8 into an Eclipse before but they have done it on Miatas and RX7's. Check out this website http://www.grannysspeedshop.com/

Suspension work? He'll be lucky if the suspension still fits! Go fully built and massive turbo for that money. That's what I say.
