Default wont engage into 1st

just got back from new orleans on work for 2 weeks, cranked her up n let warm up then drove down road smelled gas pulled over had leak on both ends of hose. cut each end and connected back up fixed. then seems like soon as i did that fixed idle issue. then i cant engage into 1st gear. can go into all other but 1st. when car is off i can engage it into 1st. but when running i cant, i let off clutch n hear gears grinding. when i try to shift to 1st its not going in , its like theres no stopping point for it to catch. wtf have any clue whats going on?

Weird? Maybe the linkage is kinked or you have something loose like motor/tranny mount that's cauing the linkage to act that way when the motors running?

I think it takes a lil while for synchros to go bad even if you race it hard. Hopefully it just got suck in a bad spot and wouldn't budge. If they're bad you'd have to pull it anyhow so just see how it runs when you fix it first.

What you described happening is not syncro's. Even if they were bad, you could still get the trans into 1st gear. You'd have to double clutch it or be stopped but it would still go into gear. What you are saying is that it will not go in. That is a linkage issue and if not, you have an internal problem with the shifting fork for that gear.
