Hi, I need to pickup a new passenger side half-shaft tomorrow and was looking at a FENCO at advance auto for $47 bucks. Does anyone have experience with FENCO? Good? Bad? Any recommendations? Thanks! Anything in particular I should know before i swap out the axle?

My old half shaft the boots were tore out entirely. I thought i could rebuild it because it would be much cheaper but i don't have the tools to do it. i cant get the spindle nut off. But i do have another knuckle that's ready to put on.

 

also is there a spindle washer on the front? Non-Abs.

 

Do they come with a waranty? Most of them are life time.

Do you have an impact, or large breaker bar? Without getting the axle nut off, that spare knuckle wont do **** for you.

 

i didn't even know that 92+ d series even had half-shafts? i thought only 88-91 civics with the cable tranny had the half shafts?

 

They don't, just 2 long axles.

 

I had a method for removing axle nuts without an impact wrench. I had my 1/2" breaker bar and a 3" long pipe. I would put the socket on the wrench, put it on the nut and jump on the pipe.

 

yea a cheater bar might work but dont want to run risk of snapping breaker bar. We got a pretty powerful impact and a torch that would get it off but air compressor is down for right now. i threw it to the side for now untill i can either get the nut off the easy way or cut it off. That way i can either rebuild the old axle, or take it back to advance auto.

I got that FENCO axle today and installed. Its a POS. the housings and splined edges are all nicked up. & hopefully the boots don't tear the first time i drive it. I had kind of a hard time pushing it in and got it stuck halfway, so i pulled back a little bit and then slammed it in and it seems like its locked in. i guess ill find out real soon if i did it right or not! also my transmission fluid that poured out was jet black and burnt.

 

FWIW, I had good luck with the NAPA remans. Both of the ones I got were built pretty well and felt substantial.

 

Also What about the Spindle Nut? What size socket fits it exactly? It seems like a 1 1/4 fits it but not perfectly. Does anyone know offhand?

 

On my chrysler they were 34mm. I bet they are metric on the honda too.

 

I've used Fenco before, haven't had any vibration issues. The nut is 32mm.

 

Been using the NAPA cheapest for a year no issues
