I replaced the ac pulley and clutch on my 98 civic. If I grab the pulley, with the belt off, I can rock it back and forth horizontally. this doesn't seem to be the case on ones I have messed with at the junk yard. When the belt is on, engine running, and ac off, the clutch plate makes contact with the pulley and heats up and burns. it doesn't matter how many shims I use. I wonder if it is the play in the pulley. Might the compressor be damaged? Someone told me to take the pulley back off and see the condition of the shaft?
