wheel size for autocross
For what type of car? Your sig has "gsr" in it. Is it for a GSR? What class? If you're in stock or STS, 15 is preferrable (or required). If you're in SP or SM, 13" is the way to go (these days...). 16 and 17 is too big and heavy, as well as giving the car higher gear ratios.
17" may be too large for autox but for road racing, depending on the car's power, can be greatly beneficial. light weight is the key for any wheel and 16's can prove best in both racing events, matched with light weight and perfect tires. traction is increased with wider tires, perfect for cornering.

That is what I thought. Wouldnt a wider wheel base be better in autocross? I think I will stick with some light weight 16"s. Considering this car is a street/drag/autocross car I think 16 would be the way to go. This is a turbo gsr, would the wider wheel base help put that power to the ground on corners better??
the wider the better for an increased contact patch. pulling g's are also increased with a wider track. if you can go 215 for your tires go for it. 205 may be your limit in width.
i believe 215 is the largest you can go on a teg... some kumho V700 are perfect for AutoXing if you can't afford full slicks and another set of wheels.

>>5th place in STS this year in Kansas was a Subaru 2.5 RS running 17s with 225 Falkens. He was .001 out of 4th, behind Richard West. Given the short gears on the RS, the extra gearing probably didnt hurt him too bad, IMHO.<<
That's right, but this is a Honda forum. My guess is, the guy that started this thread probably drives a Honda/Acura. How many 16" wheel clad Hondas were in the trophy's at Topeka? (none in STS, i was there...) In any class? What works on a Subaru has very little to do with what works on a Honda.

best rim for autocross is the smallest diameter rim that will fight over your breaks, and the wides width U can fit, and stay in your class.
16x7.5 with 225's fit just fine on my car...

don't get taller tires, who give a crap if your speedo is off a bit... also smaller overall diameter = geard for acceleration
small diameter wide width tires, and small diameter rims with wide width best way to go

For a multi-use car and only one set of wheels/tires, a set of lightweight 15x7" with sticky summer tires will be your best bet. From what I've seen, 15" has good tire availability at reasonable prices. The 16+ sizes (for wheels and tires) tend to be more expensive, much heavier, and of limited availability in decent Honda sizes.
If you are looking for wheels for autox only, then 13x7-9" with R compounds is a good bet. Be careful choosing 13" wheels - only a few brands will clear GSR calipers.

The STX National Champ (in an ITR) was running on 16" Buddy Club's with 215/45/16 Azenis. It may not have been ideal, but it worked

Considering this car is a street/strip/scca car I am not going to buy tires just for SCCA.

If the car was truly all three things then you would have at least 3 stes of wheels. If you're looking one rim for all three then you will only be mediocre at best at whatever you do.

Matt Guiver (2nd place STS at the Wendover ProSolo) was running 225's (712's, I think) on his 4-door 'teg last year but I think he now runs 215/45-16 Azenis now. So with careful fitment, you *can* get 225's to fit.
I think for a combo street/autocross, go with the 215/45-16 Azenis on 7 or 7.5" wheels (don't go narrow on wheels).

brain said "17", fingers typed "16".
Jeff, quit being so stinkin humble!
You're allowed to say "I was running on 16" Buddy Club's". Congrats again on the win! BTW, I worked the corner with you on the south course...

The ideal size is probably a 225/45/15 Azenis, which of course is not made...
