Strangest GSR tranny problem EVER
Just rebuilt an already good condition GSR tranny. All stock but had a grind and didnt want to listen to it. Ive rebuilt quite a few trannies and when I do have a problem, I can tell right away what it was. I know/knew what I am doing.
PROBLEM:
Has a little over 2 1/2gts of Syncromesh fluid in it and all the gears sound and feel good except 1st and 2nd. Whats wrong with them??? Its like they are not there and the weird part is that with the shifter in 1st in the car... its in 3rd on the tranny.
so... 1st is 3rd, 3rd is 5th and 5th is empty or nothing or non engagement or???
.......2nd is 4th, 4th is rev and rev is empty or nothing or non engagement or???
Never seen this before. I am getting ready to go and make sure the bars, which are B series in an EK, are not bent and keeping me from shifting properly. Even when I popped the shifter bars off and hand jammed the tranny, it still doesnt feel quite right.
Is there any kind of pressure (mechanical) point like ball and spring in the shift mechanism inside the tranny that I missed? I know there is the small lever on the mechanism, but if youve built one of these you know it can only be "completely" assembled one way as it will not let the case halves go together if its not in place.
I will post my result of the shifter bar tweak in a while and any input would be awesome.

Found this in another thread:

I'd look to something with the SCHA. Maybe you did what's wrong in the photo. Perhaps just put one of three bolts in it and it rotated. Hard for us to say without opening it up and seeing it right before us. If there is nothing obstructing the shifter and shift linkage from moving, it's 100% error in assembly of the internals.

I dont know how that could happen (pic). Thats a steel plate, with a steel rod in an aluminum case. I guess never underestimate the power of stupidity lol.
I figured my problem out however. Just as I suspected, when moving the hatch back into the stall, the shift bars hung up and kinked. Installed just fine but were out of "alignment". Pulled them out and placed next to a good set and retweaked them. Good as new!!!

My linkage did similar after bottoming out really hard and hitting my oil pan...My linkage had to be replaced..it was past retweaking them! LOL!
