96 Civic DX (non-Vtec) HB AT Shifting & Oil problem
Hey everyone, I just recently had my Head redone, my Head gasket changed, and I'm still having an Oil issue. It happens randomly, but from time to time the car will just smoke like crazy upon start up or take off. I can understand losing oil and smoking when I'm hammering on it, but it seems odd when its smoking sitting still in the middle/end of summer in 70-80 degree weather.
Also, on one very odd occasion (and it hasn't happened again since), I was waiting for a friend in his driveway, and the idle was jumping from 1000RPMs to 2000RPMs on like a 3 second interval. I laid on the gas pedal and a huge plume of smoke came out and I probably ran it into 6000-6500 RPMs. When I let off the gas the idle was back to normal (around 750RPMs).
My other problem is a shifting issue that I figure is either in the computer or transmission. It seems like it hangs in 3rd gear. I've tried playing with the gas pedal (letting on and off in different increments of time) to get it to shift but it usually takes a while. the Highest it's gone in 3rd is about 3500RPMs and eventually it shifted. Sometimes it bucks/rocks when it shifts as well, but that is only in really wet weather it seems, and I have new tiresso I don't think it's them slipping at all (it's usually between 1st and 2nd gear).

Have you considered bad valve stem seals or piston rings?

Have you tried a few ATF drain and refill cycles using Honda ATF? Any CEL codes?

Valve Stem Seals should be good and so should Piston Rings, The Head was just done recently so I had a chance to have everything looked at/evaluated.
I will try an ATF drain/refill, and by CEL codes are you referring to Check Engine codes? If so then no, but if you are referring to something else you will have to explain. Thanks for the response!
