Default How do you know?

I was at the junkyard today and I saw a instrument cluster sitting on the ground it showed 167.000 miles. Is it possible to change the milage on a car by switching the clusters out or is there a safeguard.
Do you realy know how many miles are on your car????

Cant you just put a cluster with less miles on it in your car. I ask because the 92 I bought only had 126k on so he said

Yes it is possible to do so, that's why it's always a good idea to ask for any receipts that someone has for a car (since many shops will note the mileage on the vehicle for warranty reasons) and also to check the carfax for the vehicle so you can see if the mileage doesn't match up. I don't think it is very common for people to do this, but it can happen.

Yeah you can do it. But generally it gets picked up at some point. The DMV registers the mileage every time the car is registered. It marks on the title when it changes.

I imagine that every state is different but here in Idaho the DMV only records mileage until about 150k or 15 years (not possitive about the exact numbers but I know its close to that.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the folks here in Missouri would catch this like a baseball.
