Default mystery squeeking

I have a 2002 Honda Accord V6. It started squeeking recently, my husband thought it was the breaks, even though the sound is not happening when I am breaking. My mechanic looked it over and found a little rust on the rotors, he removed the rust and the noise is still there. He cannot find anything else wrong with the car - but the noise is driving me crazy! Any ideas what it could be??

Does it squeek at idle? Only while accelerating? When hitting potholes? When it gets wet? Under what conditions does it squeek and where does the noise seem to come from?

It is only when accelerating, mostly when I am going slow - seems to go away when I am going over 40. The noise seems to be coming from the rear driver side. It squeeks when it is wet, dry, hot. cold, on smooth or rough surfaces - any time I am moving forward basically!

Try having someone jack the car up and spinning the tires. If the noise results while the tire is in the air, go from there. It could be a multitude of things. Bad wheel bearing, stuck parking brake, dragging brakes, ect...

My mechanic had it up on the lift and was spinning the tires, that is how he discovered the rust on the rotors. After he removed the rust we did not hear any noises, but it is still squeeking when I drive.

But it is no longer squeeking while on the lift? Have him check it again.

Any aftermarket suspension stuff? I had a squeek, come to find out it was a bushing that needs to be greased.

I've had that problem as well but it generally won't happen on smooth roads as there is no suspension travel. Also, a bad bushing would likely not cause noise while wheel is spun on a lift.

Have you check your suspension? See if it squeeks when you push the rear down with your hands or body weight. I've had the issue of the strut collar developing rust and squeeking. The collar itself is less than $10.

could be a warped rotor that would make it do that. if not maybe a wheel bearing going out

Sounds like your rear shock may be leaking. Ask the mechanic to inspect the shock. It sounds similar to my leaking driver side strut. At first I thought it was the driver side axle. Turned out, when I put weight on that strut, it would make noise, and on the body of the strut, you can see residue of fluid leaking out of it.
