Default 97 hatch shell - How convert d16z6 to OBD II? Can 92-95 si tranny be used?

ok im picking up a 97 shell today with a 2000 front end. quarters are rusted a bit, not as bad as my 92 was.

quesiton is, what is needed to convert a d16z6 to OBD II, and can a 92-95 si tranny be used in the 97 as well?

i can't use a jumper harness for obd2-1 because of emissions, basically obd-2 cars just use a code reader. so a d16z6 is cheaper at the junkyard than a d16y8 so if it can be converted its all good.

im pretty sure you need to convert it to a OBD1 also what junkyard looks at engine codes and why would you buy an engine from a junkyard?? unless youre doing a full rebuild than its really not worth it

Check emission laws, I am pretty sure you can't use an older engine in a newer car.

they dont check engine codes here. they just plug the scanner into the obd2 port. so i would have to convert the obd1 engine to obd2

because they are warrantied and will get me around for the time being. i want to build the car back to stock, maybe a little more. i have health problems and pay doctors out of pocket, so i cant continue to drive my truck at 10mpg for another year or so.

You'll have to run a P28 with an adapter harness so you won't get away with it.

What does what have to do with it? Granted, the title is pretty weak at describing the real issue.
