I have a '94 2 door Honda Civic DX that I bought in June. It hasn't had any electrical problems, only mechanical and those were fairly easy to fix. However, a few nights ago I got into my car to go home and it started and drove just fine but when I went to make my first turn I noticed that my blinker wasn't clicking so I looked down and none of my gauges were working and neither were my blinkers but all of my lights and my dash lights still worked. I stopped at a red light and shut my car off and restarted it thinking maybe that would help (because at this point I had no idea why it was doing that) and when I went to take my car out of park it wouldn't let me, I have to stick the key in the key hole that's by the shifter, put it in neutral and then start the car and put it in drive. I searched on here for other people having the problem with their gauges and blinkers and it said to check the hazard fuse so I did and it was burnt out, I put a new fuse in and started my car, nothing was fixed. I got out and checked the new fuse and it is now burnt out as well. Help??!!

Did it burn the fuse just by starting the car or did it burn it when you tried turning one of the signal/hazard lights on? Fuses burn up because there is something drawing to many amps. So either you have a break in a wire thats grounding out or a bulb is shorting out somehow. As for it not shifting out of park i cant help you there.

 

It will turn back on, but not shift out of park?? The only thing it could be would the brake release mechanism... I can't think of anything else that would stop it from coming out of park? Automatics are always a different ball park on here.

 

I didn't check it until after I turned my lights on but I'm guessing it burnt out right away because my gauges still weren't working. I'm guessing I must have a short in a wire somewhere, I don't know what else it could be.

 

Every time I'm going to drive I have to stick the key in the key hole thats by the shifter and then it will let me put it in neutral and then I start the car and put it in drive, but it wont let me put it in drive just by starting the car like normal. And it started doing this at the exact same time as when my gauges and blinkers went out.

What is that?? And how can it be fixed?

 

get a new shifter from the junkyard.

 

Is there any reason that it would have done that at the exact same time as my gauges and blinkers going out??
