Default how much boost can an f22a1 block handle?

my friend is giving me a 4 inch garrett turbo, and im wondering if it will put too much stress on my f22a1. its in a 92 with 193k miles and a small oil leak somewhere. i dont want to mess with getting a whole new block...

4" turbo? what size turbo? what did it come off of? have you done a compression test? what will you use for engine management? I need a little more info before I can even begin to answer this question.

sorry, i dont know a whole lot about turbos. he just told me its a 4 inches (im assuming impeller diameter?) and that its a garrett. im not sure what it came off of. i dont know what a compression test is. i was going to figure out the ECU later. i was thinking maybe of making one with an 8 pin integrated circuit and parts from radioshack, then downloading source code. i read in "car hacks and mods for dummies" that you can make them. other than that i have no idea what to do for an ECU. thanks for the help!

talk to your friend and get a little more info on the turbo. I would not risk boosting a 20 year old car with 190k. get on the forced induction section and read up on what is involved in building a turbo kit. It is very expensive and one thing you'll find is building a kit around a free part is never a good idea.
