Lol. Yeah I'm leaning towards taking off work and driving to check it out. It looks stock. Hopefully an unmolested r.

I'll post some pics if I buy it.

you're asking us if it's worth the purchase, but the only info given to us to base our opinion off of is the mileage, which is by far not enough..

pics?, mileage?, clean title?, original motor?, accident?, jdm front? gutted?, paint?

all we know is it's a Championship White '98 ITR with 195k miles.. we need more info.

that's like buying a puppy and all you know is it's fluffy.

if it's clean and totally stock it's a fair deal, not a great one. 195k is a lot on the b18c5 and past where most pop an exhaust valve. it's not a bad deal, just keep in mind you'll be doing a rebuild before long

understand. what helps is im a ase certified tech, acura certified tech. i work for an acura dealer so parts would be cheaper for me.

im really crossing my fingers that the owner is not bulshitting.

Yeah your right, I don't see any type of decals. I'm not 100% sure but R hoods should still have all the OEM decals. There is your first sign of a accident.

I tried to buy this car a month ago. Said I had cash and would like to have a friend look at it. This was after texting for a few hours. Never heard back from the guy. Big red flag for me. Its been for sale for like 3-4 months now

What do you mean pop an exhaust valve?

Not to be rude... but where exactly did you gather the information that the C5 has a problem with "popping" exhaust valves? That just seems uncredible. Keep the valves adjusted and its no different then any other B series in terms of valve train reliability.

it's the most common way for a vtec engine to go when oil burning gets excessive. i've seen more fraged exhaust valves on the b16, b18c1 and b18c5 than any other failure

I'd say no do not buy it unless you plan on rebuilding it soon... from the pics body looks pretty good, but you can't really say much more since ALOT of detail isn't there.

"fragged" valves would be an indication of excessive heat. This would be from poor seat contact which usually stems from **** poor maintenance like I said. I've been in this game since 96 and I have yet to see ANY broken exhaust valves. Bent, sure... broken, negative. Ive worked on plenty of cars and built countless engines so I am sure if it was an epedimic like your first statement could be interpreted, I would have seen it by now.

7k is fair price if she has a clean title and 100% original? The only thing is that with that much miles you have to remember that your going to spend more $$ for a rebuild soon. Im not saying that c5 don't have a longer live spam of 200k cause I seen them go way past the mark but for a more reliable caR. Plus with the much miles im sure she felt a lot of vtec in her lifetime With the money that your going to end up spending on her for the rebuild just take your time and look for a more lower mile itr. so engines never blow up?

it's also not excessive heat per se, it's soot from oil burning that coats the valve and prevents it from cooling, it's basically a petro blanket. steel only has so many fatigue cycles and eventually a bad tank of gas gets some knock going and it lets loose.

i really don't see how you could claim to have been around awhile and haven't seen high mile honda engine failures. ring lands and exaust valves are the two biggies with the valves being the most common

well went to see the thing..and it was good from afar but far from good. oh i feel for this R...i don't think this thing has ever been in a garage. the reason why the paint look soo white is because they had the car painted at MAACO OR SOMETHING. overspray all over. residual paint all over the moldings. there so much rust the under tie bar is even rusted out and dangling. both quarter panel were bondoed...worst 3 hours or my life. i offered him 4k he declined.

you did the right thing imo. sounds like a money pit and personally i'd never buy an R with a rusted frame period. just too hard to resell. between that and the paint 4k was probably more than i would have offered lol
