brake light recently came on and stays on, need help
Hey fellas, i have a 97 Civic EX, manual, completely stock. Recently the brake light on my gauge cluster came on. Its dim but when i lift the park brake up then it shines bright as it should. My brakes are due for pads and rotors, its a little squishy. Park brake does work. There is no check engine light on. Only the brake and srs light. Srs light was on previously. Anyone ever have this problem before? The only thing that i can think of is a ground wire making connection by the park brake. Before i start taking my center console apart, i want to save my self the hassle if i dont need to take it apart. Thanks in advance, any help is appreciated.
You just mention you are up for a brake job. There you go. Get a set of brembo blanks and autozone pads, bleed it properly and top off the fluid. You should be set. You can also adjust your parking brake and also clean of brake dust on your rear drums.
Brake light comes on for 3 reasons
1. Low fluid in master cylinder (BAD)
2. Parking brake is on
3. Master cylinder fluid level switch is unplugged

Welp, I had a chance to get under the hood today and this is what i got so far. Brake fluid level is between max and min line so that was fine ( i did top it off), the 2 wires/plugs that connect to the cap are connected, i did disconnect and reconnect to make sure they were plugged in firmly and securely. Park brake was all the way down. Still nothing. Light stays lit. Any other ideas i can try?
change the cap on the master cylinder reservoir. it happened to me. barrow a buddys brake master cylinder cap and see if problem persist.
on second thought.
turn the car to on.
take the cap off and leave the wires plugged in.
have friend stay in the car and watch the brake light while you move the bottom of the cap up and down. when up the light should go off. when down the light should come on

I also took apart the rear portion of the console and disconnected the brake light switch, still stays lit dim. Im stumped now. Any other ideas guys?
