Default Jdm gsr gearset plus LSD into usdm LS tranny case

Can someone tell me what has to be done before I take on this task. I noticed the bearings on the diff's are different between the LS and jdm gsr. I have the tranny taken apart I just need to assemble it and I wanted to see what I have to do to make the jdm gsr gearset work in the LS tranny case.

Thanks for your help

The cases are the same on the GSR and LS hydro transmissions. Use the shims to match the GSR diff from your old case and you will be fine.

Wow that sounds easy thanks. Now if I don't have the shims where can I purchase them?

If you do not have the OEM shims for the tapered bearings you may want to switch over to ball bearings. Does your JDM GSR have an open diff (4 spider gears and a bar in the middle), Viscous LSD (14 bolts), or Helical Type R LSD (10 bolts)?

If you have a 14 bolt viscous LSD with tapered bearings it uses different shims than the ITR or B16 LSD. Without the OEM shims it can be tricky to set it up. I have switched this type LSD over to the B16 ball bearings before but it took some creative shimming.

Sounds like a head ache. I thought the was going to be easy. Ive built a few motors so I thought I'd give transmissions a try. The LSD sits in the tranny crooked

One B16 bearing and one GSR bearing, careful of which way you offset the diff.
