My R has no VTEC! Sucks, can anyone help?
I've done a lot of research but am still unsure and the issue is unresolved.
Here's some background on it:
I have a K20A2 swap, but VTEC essentially works the same way K or B. Anyway, my car went under the knife a couple of months ago as I broke some teeth off of the final drive...normal wear and tear for the A2 I'm told, especially with the amount of track time I get. I got the car back together with new transmission parts, Type-R 3rd gear, new bearings, 2nd gear set, Wavetrac LSD, 5.01 Final Drive, Exedy clutch and flywheel.
I drove the car for 1000km, just as a precaution/break-in, without going passed 4000rpm. After my break-in period, I tried to enjoy my brand new tranny setup, but was disappointed as my car felt flat after 5800rpm, where my normal engagement is. Then I realized, my car limited at about 7800rpm, normally 8600rpm.
I have a stock ECU reflashed to bypass the immobilizer. The way the car is wired up, it does not allow me to plug in a scanner to read any CEL's. Stupid I know, but that's how the car has been for 3 years. Speedo and Tach work perfectly fine. I seem to have good oil pressure according to my gauge. I've done an oil change, I've replaced the vtec solenoid, oil pressure switch, and the oil pressure sensor with parts I know work.
Has anyone seen anything like this before? No VTEC and early rev limiter/fuel cutoff/whatever it is.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

^Yeah I know. I was hoping someone would have had experience with this. Just the symptoms of no vtec and lower rev cutoff, perhaps leading to the replacement of a certain part.
Well if anyone else comes across this thread with any ideas, I appreciate any help.

My car did this as well, my TPS had decieded to die!
If you have another throttlebody, try to change the whole thing
But i would recomend you to get a KPRO aswell

Sounds like it's in some sort of limp mode.
Is the CEL on? If so, is there some sort of paper-clip method with these cars to read it?

Going to do a tear down on the car on Monday.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if it was the TPS, wouldn't there be issues with idle and bogging while normal driving as well?
No idea on ways to read the CEL, aside from buying a proper subharness from K-Tuned.

i had a v-tec prob with my turbo type r. turned out i milled the head one too many times and the vtec wasnt turning on from lack of oil pressure somehow caused by too thick of a headgasket.
hey man one of the boys from australia also had the same problem, car revs only up to 7,600rpm or thereabouts. turns out it was his catalytic converter, so you might want to give it a shot.
he also replaced his dizzy, $150 from ebay, not sure if that also contributed to fixing the issue, i can find out more if you like.
by the way your car is hot, i have like a whole album folder dedicated for your car on my pc hahah

Like I said, one day hahaha
Thanks for the compliments!
I can try my cat, it was installed 3 years ago, but maybe with all the tracking I do somethings gone wrong? Perhaps O2 sensor can cause an issue as well, if anyone can confirm this.
I'd replace the distributor, if I had one lol.
Thanks again for the replies, I haven't torn apart the car fully yet as it started to rain the one day...hoping for another crack at it this weekend.
