With winter slowly coming up in the next couple of months, I had a few questions regarding the FA5.
First, how is driving with the lsd? Does it cause any issue? Do I have to be careful about certain things when trying to get out of the snow?
Second, what are you guys using as winter mats? I don't feel like having a lot of salt accumulation in the car!
Third is there a better lsd oil/tranny oil then the one from honda that you would recommend?
As for winter tires I have already ordered Toyo Observes Garit KX which I have used on previous cars and liked a lot!
Thanks,
David

The car is great in bad weather. I didn't make any changes to mine for the winter, and never had an issue w/getting around.
But, I don't live in Canada!
The LSD is a big help.
Winter mats...that's a great idea!

I was looking at the weathertech ones... a little pricey but as long I can eliminate the salt on the carpets I don't mind!
Use the honda trans fluid. I'd use the oem weather mats. I used to use a couple aftermarket mats. I always had a problem of the mat sliding behind the brake and clutch peddle.

You'll be fine. I drove mine home to NC from Chicago during the big storm of 09. Minus finding out at 65 that they don't salt or plow rest stops, I had a blast in the snow.
Last winter I just changed tires and used Micheline 205/55/16"s on my civic, the car went anywhere I wanted to go.
That car was an 06 si without traction control.
I did have a set of rubber mats, they always looked terrible with the salt on them, so I put carpet mats over them.

Firstly, don't change the oils, they are the recommended lubes for our climate.
Second, I am using the OEM all weather floor mats, the were the optional set available at the dealer, and they trap everything...
Third, the LSD will kick in if wheel spin is detected, but with the winter tires you want, that will be reduced if not eliminated, it really depends on how fast./hard you drive, and the roads...
Have fun with it, and keep it sticky side down!
my fa5 was one of the few cars driving around in the last chicago snow storm. so was my gf's FG1. just let it warm up, and hope that lower lip doesnt scrape on the snow.
GET WEATHERTECH MATS! i need them, any one mat slides around :/

ya I'm looking at getting there digital fit ones for the front and the back... even if I never have had someone go in the back yet lol
I got the molded weather tech matts and love them. As far as optional oils to use in your trans amsoil makes a very nice full synthetic that a lot of people on here use. Dont wory about it damaging the LSD our car use a helical gear type and it is completely safe to use a full synthetic like the amsoil. If your car has traction control you will have to play with it a bit to find out when you need to turn it off. If you can swing it a set of true winter tires will make a night and day diff over an all season tire.

oh ya winters are for sure going on... actually it's the law up here! If you are caught without winter tires its a 2000$ fine and the car get impounded for a week.
Didnt catch that you are from Montreal. I love it up there, for years we attened the F1 race that was until they stopped running it. Had many a great nights eating and drinking at the Claremont on Rue Sherbrooke, and the sushi at the Tree house was to die for. Might have to make a trip back up there soon.
