After the event at Thunderhill this week and before I go to Laguna Seca next month I'm going to be needing some front pads again. I did a search and come up with a few posts on the Ferodo DS 3000 and they sound like great track pads. Any one using these for street use as well or are they not really good track and street pads?
The Ferodo DS3000 is designed as a track/race compound, but I have several customers who do drive it on the street, against my recommendations.
On the street, you will find that the cold bite is quite good, and overall streetability is also very good. However, the wear on the pad material will be faster when driven cold (on the street) as compared to a dedicated high-performance street compound.

I´m running DS000 endurance.
I love them in track and street use.
I have been in track with them, more than 8k miles on hard street use and they´re fine.
The best track pads.

Andie... I believe Bob has come to the conclusion that the rotor discoloration is caused by driving the DS3000 on the street. He mentioned to me that there was no discoloration as he left the track, and the day after (after street driving on them) they show the same discoloration.
IMO.. keep them as track only pads.

In the end, I can only recommend what I think is best for my customers...if they decide to drive a track pad on the street, I can't keep them from doing it.

On the rotor aggressiveness part...the Ferodo DS3000 is definitely NOT rotor aggressive relative to other track/race pads...ask Corey Jacobs what his rotors looked liked after 4 race days. For street driving (again, NOT recommended), they will be more rotor aggressive compared to a street compound.

Here's a recent review on an ITR from one of my customers:

Andie,
What does a front set of DS3000's go for? If you want you can e-mail me privately at hecklervtec@yahoo.com. I see you're in Ft. Lauderdale. I'll be in and out of the area (Coral Springs) over the next couple of weeks and maybe I can pick them up while I'm there.

They do squeak, and they will eventually wear the rotors out much faster than normal. It's also expensive to use these on the street.
However, they have excellent cold bite, and there's no problem using them on the street except for what I've said.
They work very well on the street.

I´m using them on street, very good.
The DS3000 for the ITR is $140.40 for the front axle. The Honda-Tech.com discount on Ferodo products is 5%.
I can stock ITR rotors and sell them at $40/rotor for ITR owners who purchase the Ferodo DS3000 and insist on driving it on the street.
This is $5 above my cost for the rotors, which, in this case, is an accessory.

I use the Ferodo DS3000...as a track pad, they are awesome and noticably reduced stopping distances compared to the Porterfield R4. Not to mention I have experienced nearly zero fade after two extremely hard track days (so far). The pads appear to have a bit more than 50%, so I expect to get 4 full events out of them.
As a street pad, they function perfectly fine...but may not be the best option. My pads/rotors did not look like this after my track days, but they did after one day of street driving:

Wierd huh? I've decided to use them as a track only pad because multicolored rotors aren't really my thing.

I'm using the DS3000 too on the track. They are very good on the track, but I don't like them on the street, because they dust like hell.
If you want a good street + track pad, get the DS2500...

gonna have to disagree with everyone saying they are alright for the street. although the cold bit is much better than my previous track pads, panther +'s, they can't hold a candle to my current street pads, porterfield R4S.
i bedded the ferodo's in on sunday and on monday drove the car to the bank, with the hopes of just leaving them on until this weekend at VIR, and would rate them just about the same if not slightly below the bite of the stock R pads which pale in comparison to the porterfields. as soon as i got back from the bank i put the porterfields back on. no point is messing up $140 pads, street rotors and my UKDM wheels just to save 20 minutes saturday morning.

j/k
as long as the dust is not bad for the wheels... I will install tonight and bed on Friday.
