2001 ECU?
So if all 1996 to 2000 ITR's use a p73 ECU then what do the 2001 ITR's use?
Is there a quick fix to put my 98 P73 in the new 2001 shell/harness?

yes a harness converter can be used OBD2b to OBD2a...

or
locate a JDM ecu (no immobolizer)

Wasn't the JDM ECU tuned for 95 octane and have something like a 112mph limiter? There was some reason why no one wanted to use them vs. the USDM ECU's.
FWIW, I always heard the 00/01 USDM ECU was superior (better tuned) than the 97/98.

JDM P73 tuned on like 95RON not 95AKI or octane. 95RON is what we call in the U.S. 91 octane. As far as I know the JDM one uses a little more fuel and slightly more aggressive timing, biggest difference being the rev limiter raised to 8900RPM. As far as the speed I can't comment on. When I had the JDM ECU in a Civic it cut out at 130MPH.

I have *never* heard this before. If you are basing this off of an OEM tach, then chances are your tach was just off (like most of them are).
If it were indeed 8900rpms, we all would have been buying them back in the day.
And I thought the JDM ECU was tuned for JDM 98RON because of the higher compression the JDM motor had.

So now I have this:
98 ECU -> OBD2A TO OBD2B ADAPTOR > 2001 CAR AND WIRING HARNESS -> 98 OBD2A ENGINE.
I am getting fuel and no spark. Have I missed something on the "conversion" or just diagnose the ignition?

Just to be specific. I crashed my USDM 98 car earlier this year. I acquired a USDM 2001 car and swapped engine and ecu using a conversion harness. My question is are there any wiring changes in the car part of the harness i need to make to work with the 98 engine?
Mine defies all odds them because according to my gearing and tire size I hit 116MPH at 8500RPM in 4th, and I have shifted to 5th and continued to accelerate I'd say to around 130MPH at a little less than 7500RPM where it cuts out. It just stops accelerating, no bounce, just thats it.
jdm type r is 8900rpm rev limit.(using a digital hks turbo and apexi vafc)
197km speed cut
the ecu is tuned for 100octance. but since alot of places dont have that at the pump it gutless from my experience. iv owned a few type r from japan with there fuel and its like night and day.

We need a definitive answer because I don't think it is tuned for 100 octane either. 93 is the only thing I put in mine and it runs fine. Now wouldn't you think i would get some nasty engine noises if timing and such was setup for an octane 7 points higher on the US scale? That is a huge difference.
Mine runs on 93 octane just fine, hits 210km/h and revs to 8900RPM besides 5th gear where it hits the speed cut first. WTF why is the JDM ECU so unknown lol

i am talking about jdm ecu why would there be weird noises. the timing gets pulled back alot when using other gas hence power loss from importing to different conutry. talk to someone in japan as they can classify this info. all performace car in japan runs on 100 octane.
JDM motors do not have a knock sensor. Not really sure how it would just pull timing, I thought it was more of a do or die situation. Run the correct fuel or blow it up. I think you maybe mean 100RON not 100AKI which is used in the U.S. AKI(R+M)/2) is rated at a completely different scale. It uses the RON and MON ratings and is averaged, the AKI is usually around 5 points lower than the RON rating. Meaning 100RON is really 95 octane but if I am not mistaken the JDM version is rated for 98RON meaning 93 octane here in the states.
The ECU doesn't see the immobilizer in your 98 ignition. That is my guess as to why you get no spark.
