Default B20b: Light mod/build

I recently purchased a B20b from TigerJapanese in Toronto (I live right next to the border). I was given a deal I could not pass up and I was able to hand pick the engine from their facility. The motor will be going into my 4 door Gs-R with a B16 trans. I will eventually build a B20V (similar to my old setup).

Specs/ plans:
B20b (high compression version)
B16a2 trans
3 inch intake (AEM ITR)
2.5 inch exhaust
ITR replica header (2.5 inch flange)
OBD1 P-75 chipped
Tuned on Crome Pro by me

I am just looking for more bottom end power and a fun street/ track car, nothing crazy.

isnt the higher compression ver. is the b20z not the b20b??
but yea my first b20vtec was inspired by a 4door teg on I believe it was super street magazine, they had a white 4door gsr that threw in the stock eternal b20vtec set-up and ran 13.6, that was fast during that time, so I decided to do the same thing and end up running 13.4 in my hatchback. fun street set-up, then of course I went turbo and im loving this ****!! hahahaha lol....

people need to stop calling any of the b20 engines with the PHK pistons "high compression", because they arent. PHK stamped pistons give you 9.6:1 compression vs the P3F pistons which give you 8.9:1 compression. b20z is the b20 engine with the slightly higher compression then the b20b engine, but its by no means a high compression engine.

I believe I stated "higher compression version", I never said the compression ratio was high. From my research I have the 9.1:1 version (higher of the B20b's).

Got the same setup in my 94 DC and love it, true 3" SRI, 4-2-1 header and full 3" Thermal Exhaust. OBDI P75 and tuned on Crome as well. I have yet to truly tune/dyno it but it runs pretty good as my DD.

When you hand picked it, did you get a P-75 head or the P8R version?

P75 version. All the P8R heads had cracks, chips, parts missing etc. I usually go to Karim (Toronto JDM) for my parts, but he was out other things I needed at the time so I went down the road to TigerJap

If you have a knock sensor on your b20 then you have the 9.6:1 version some b's have them and all z's do.

its decent. I have a type R head milled 0.020 inches on a b20b 9.6:1 CR stock block. Quick off the line and more topend. don't expect to win if you go toe to toe with an M3. But otherwise quick street car. If you can keep it in vtec with a good tranny, will move decently. Also drives much easier below vtec for DD.

I average between 24~26 mpg in city driving with frequent vtec pulls. This compares to 30~32 mpg previous with non-vtec B20b 9.6:1 CR engine.

overall i'm happy with this engine. it feels like the Integra should have come with this type of torque and topend from the factory. it is unbeatable for the price/reliability. However, it is also definitely slower than real sports (s2000, 370z, m3) but also costs a lot less.

with B20 non-vtec with a OBD2 P75 ecu and b16 tranny, I think that is pretty average.

with stock B18b1 with LS tranny was about 34~35 mpg

I averaged 26-29 with my Gs-R and a stock P72. With this new setup/ map I would imagine I would be around 22-26. I did not want to run a stock P-75 on a B20.

I am using a stock Gs-R flywheel and an Exedy Stage 1 clutch disc. I built a B20Vtec roughly 2 years ago and love how that felt. I'm sort of chasing that old feel... lol

I feel ya, your gonna be pulling threw gears pretty fast anyways with the b16 trans. i had the ls trans so it was more valuble to me. Plus you say you want alllll the low end power and obviously a lighter flywheel would hurt that. :cough:LSDb20:cough

with the torque of the B20 and low redline, i wouldve gone to the LS trans.

but to each their own

I prefer shorter gearing. I have owned almost every trans and I am a big fan of the 4.4FD.
