Default Cams for a 13.8:1 CR 2000cc B18C race engine

What would you recommend?

We have Pro2s now. Was considering just upgrading to Pro3s, but personally I think rocket M25 would do better.

Or maybe something custom? If so, who would you recommend?

Also, who would you contact regarding buying Rocket spec cams? (feel free to conact me if you are a dealer)

PM or email if you have used Pro3s or something else mail: karl-kristian(at)nyborg-garage.no

Spec:
B18C block.
B18C crank (87.2mm).
Darton MID sleeves, bored to 85mm.
Arias two-ring custom pistons (ceramic and moly coating).
Bisimoto custom long rods.
B16A2 head with full sqish pad, and ported locally.
Skunk2 pro2 cams, skunk2 pro cam gears, skunk2 pro valvesprings, skunk2 pro retainers (everything here has been through two seasons of rallycross racing).
OEM type-r intake valves, OEM b16 exhaust valves
Jenvey ITB
Cometic head gasket (85mm)
Arp head studs
ACL race bearings
Custom 4-1 header from Bisimoto
Motec M4 EMS

I used m25 in a serious 2l build and I loved them!
So I suggest contact user "ALL M0T0R" for Deamons or Reapers.

Thanks alot for the tips.

If it was my own engine I would love to test some custom/extreme stuff from ALL MOTOR, but since it is a customers engine I will most likely go for the safe route.

I also considered Bisimoto level X, bet they will produce massive top end power, but in rallycross its great to have that low end power you get with the skunk2 pro series or similar (level X is a "vtec killer").

When I switched from Pro-2's to Pro-3's on my 2.0L, I made more power everywhere.

You have more compression and better induction. I'd imagine Pro-3's would be a great upgrade.

cibao2ner: All parts of the engine will be inspected during the winter.

ALL MOTOR: I do clay all my motors, and all clearances will be checked with the new cams as well. (see my facebook page for proof).

92TypeR: Thanks alot

Wish I could find some cheap Pro3s? Would be great to be able to test some Reapers or Deamons against the Pro3s on this engine

Demons would be a better comparison.. the reapers will require you to measure retainer and valve stem height..and to be honest, the demons would be a more equal comparison.

If you need anything just pm or txt me..or email me.

I'd suggest Crower 63403-2, 63402-2 or 63402P-2. Crower makes some great stuff.

It's not all about dyno numbers and the like. i don't understand why people think that American companies can't make great equipment. Crower has been around since 1955, they obviously know what they are doing. I think the reason Crower or Comp Cams aren't used more often is because ignorant people follow what everybody else is doing. I'm not saying that everybody else is wrong, I'm saying it is possible to make power with a new setup instead of a cookie cutter b-series build. Crower wouldn't put the product on the market if it didn't work.

And the correct way to state your question would have been 'Really? Where ARE all of the DYNOS on engines using their cams?'

Crower cams work....they just don't work as well as a few other options out there that also happen to be American companies. And dyno's are more valuable than you give credit.

If you read what I asked you I asked for dyno's and results.YES I have used Crower and they worked OK but nothing like Rockets,Skunk2,Buddyclub,Toda,WEBCAM,DDTECH,KELFOR D I dont care who makes what I use all of these brands still.I have done more camshaft testing in B series engines than anyone I know and never found Crower to be better than the other brands I listed it all comes down to who builds the engine and sets the cams up.

I never said dynos weren't valuable. Crower is just less common in the import world, so you won't find as many dyno charts for engines using Crower cams. The other thing people (not necessarily you guys) over emphasize is peak power, you need to judge a part by its power band, not the peak numbers.

Crower is less common in the import world because they simply don't perform as well as other available choices. That's just how it is. They're background is in domestics and that's where they seem to focus their energy, nothing wrong with that. You're making general statements and then revoking them by saying "not us", well if that's the case, you're preaching to the wrong crowd. I can tell you that if I could make more power overall, not just peak, with Crower cams, I would have been running them a long time ago. That's how Crower is judged by most people and that's why they rank where they do in the import world.

I didn't revoke a statement, I just didn't want to insult you and say you guys were only focused on peak power. It seems like you guys know what you are talking about so I figured you knew how an engine produces power and the importance of the area under the curve. Sorry if I am making you angry.

It used to have a quaife close ratio gear set, but last year it broke.

This season he is running a stock b16a2 gearbox with a custom final drive and a LSD (plate) from six time european rallycross champion Martin Schanche. He says It works alot better then both the type R and the quaife LSD.

Traction is often a issue (many corners are whet gravel, 3500-4000rpm 2.gear mid corner), so a strong and smooth running engine with a extremely wide powerband i preferred. The Pro2's was great in that way, but lacking some top end power.

Don't know the weight, probably around 950kg (2100lbs)?

Don't know the size either, think they where bought used.
