Horrible Gas Mileage..Must Help!
Well, I have a 96gsr. All it has is a AEM CAI in terms of engine mods(the dc header is not yet installed). I dont really drive all that aggressive for the most part. I shift between 3-4k, and probably only hit vtec once or twice a week. My smog numbers were crsytal clean (6, 6, 4)..something of that sort. About half of the average values. Well i got about 79 miles for half a tank in this past week. Im not throwing and check engine lights either
any ideas??? besides someone is stealing my gas, because i can see the drop each time i drive.

oh yeah, and I just had the 75k service done. everything checked out. My brakes in the rear are bad, so they might be sticking, but wouldnt there be squeling and a noticible lag in acceleration?
Something you might wanna try, on your next fill up go ahead and try another brand of gas.
I've noticed that I get better gas mileage on some gas (Like I get great mileage off BP gas compared to Sunoco, even though sunoco offers 94 octane). I think some gas is watered down a bit.

i get about 125 to a half and i think i get shitty mileage! All City driving running 93 sometimes sunoco 94 if im near by!

take a look at the o2's
One thing you didn't mention is if its city or highway
Remember if you're stuck in traffic you're getting 0 miles to the gallon
The best way I check milage is you fill up to the rim and drive 60 miles on the highway and fill again to the rim and check how much you get.
The same for city
That way you get an exact reading.
Just a thought

I suggest you do a full tune-up if you havn't done it before. Used all OEM parts if you can, they are a little more but last longer. Before I did my full-tune-up, I was getting like 200 per tank but afterward I was getting like 230-250 depending on how i drove.
Used all oem parts if you can, change the spark plugs (NGK-they are expensive but trust me, they are best for your car. Also changed the distrubtor cap and rotor, air filter, fuel filter, spark plug wires. Get a valve adjustment.
Also, you are suppose to run Superunlead just incase you are not. Use brand name gas like Chevron, Shell. Don't use the cheap stuff like Arcco, or those mom and pop gas station....
As for the 02 sensor going bad, I highly doubt it in this case. When a o2 sensor go bad, you will get a check engine light or smell gas from your exhaust.

thanks for all the tips. The car just had its 75k mile service done, so a lot was changed on that. Im going to try resetting the ecu. the mileage is half/half city and highway. I try not to engine brake as much as possible, I usually pop it out of gear and just coast to a stop. One of my tires is mounted in the wrong direction, could that have anything to do with it?
oh yeah, Im using 91 octane costco gas(no 93 in CA). i just filled it up again. I got 91.4 miles for 5.585 gallons of gas. so its about 16.35 mpg...shitty
thats odd, cause i've been get 26mpg with VTEC maybe once every 2 days for about 3 weeks with my burnt o2 sensor w/CEL on and everything. just changed the o2 sensor to a new one and I hope I get better mileage. this is all city, home to university, and wherever, no highway driving.

why would engine braking decrease gas mileage by 30-40%? All you are doing is slowing down by not pressing your brakes and releasing the throttle. it also saves brake wear.
daym, if you replaced all those parts and you still get jacked up gas mileage then you definitely have a problem. clean out your injectors or send em out to have em cleaned. replace all the fuel lines if you need to.
16 mpg
My record low was like 21. I average 27, 30 on roadtrips. When I lose a few mpg consistently I use regane and I end up back at 27 again. Right now seems to happen every 10-15k miles. I use Chevron 91.

it matters how you drive and where to also, driving streets for a long time causing alot of use of gas from stopping and going, but freeway your going a steady pace, but you should get it checked out to be sure
the whole fuel system was flushed about 6 month ago(at the dealer). I dont see why it would be jacked up this fast. I reset the ECU, so ill see what happens.
