rocker rust. what can i do? ideas?
i need to try to do something about this rocker rust problem before winter or its going to eat my car alive. i dont have tons of money so im looking for something cost effective as well as effiecient. i will likely be doing it myself, its been suggested that i get rocker pieces from an auto parts store to weld on, i dont however know the cost and i think its pretty pricey, if anybody has any ideas or solutions from past experiences with this car or other vehicles any and all input is much appreciated.

Cheapest route would be to cut out all the rust and replace it with new sheet metal. You can buy a sheet of steel for a few bucks from most auto parts stores. Cut it to size, shape it and weld it in. Doing it this way it is your time and your ability are the biggest concerns. Buying the factory replacement panels can get very pricey. In this case you need to buy pretty much the entire side of the car. Better to cut one out of a JY car or build your own.
what are rocker panel mouldings? i was surfing google and came across the idea, plastic versions of the rocker? would that work well? certainly wouldnt rust, but is it practical?
The best way is cut out the rust and weld new metal in but if you do not own a welder and don't know how to weld that gets kinda pricey. Go to a auto paint supply store and get something called Rost Mort or Por 15. They nuetrelize the rust and tunr it back into metal. Follow the directions on the product.
Is the car only being supported by those 4x4's in the middle of the car?

If you are going to support the car, do it properly, place support under the front and rear. Placing the blocks in the middle will just cause the weight to balance through a cantilever effect. If you plan on doing structural work like this, when you cut out the metal the floor board will bend, effectively break the cars back.
Don't support a vehicle like this. Ever.
