Icon2 2002 Civic tranny whir/whine when cold

My daughter had a 2001 Civic which lost a tranny at 95K

I have 176 K on my 2002 Civic and changed fluid at 108k and 163K.
I have recently noticed a whir/whine since the 2nd fluid change. After the car has warmed up after 5 miles, I can't hear it or is a lot less.
The fluid color was looked at by a 2nd Honda dealer after I changed it at my regular Honda dealer and they said it was not red enough. I called my regular dealer and they said that it will not be red because the torque converter has a bunch of the old fluid in it.

Anyway, I feel that the tranny might be giving me hints. I had a AAMCO tranny mechanic drive it today while warm and they saw or felt nothing wrong.

Any ideas?

BTW on Car Complaints site, the 2001 Civic tranny is awful.

Hate to say it, but it's dying a slow death. Be prepared to rebuild or replace it.

I took the car in... the technician said it was the transmission pump. He said I can drive it longer until it does it more . No problem in tranny about codes, shavings/metal, or burnt fluid. I thought it might be power steering pulley or air conditioning pulley but tech said he knows the difference in sound.

The car shifts like new still. To repair tranny is $2200 -$2900 if I take it in ...higher is if hard parts are bad.
