Default Friends rebuilding a 2001 integra type r motor

rebuilding his b18c5 most of the build is done which consisits of.

81.5mm rs machine pistons (11.5:1 comp after milling and decking)
Not including the high comp valves.
Maxbore itr throttlebody
Rc 310cc injectors(debadged)
Toda spec C
arp rodbolts
Factory R crankshaft
Toda header

comptech b pipe to stock type r muffler

the question is would modifying the stock oem resonator be beneficial in this particular setup? He is planning on running a K&n drop in filter.

I tried persuading him towards getting something aftermarket. He loves the stock look.

anyone know if running the factory resonator will be better than removing it and running ex. a 3" aluminum pipe and route similar to the mugen intake?

Remove it. Those cams are going to want to breathe, so to get the best out of them, the better the intake goes (ideally a 3"AEM CAI for the ITR, or Mugen etc) and better the exhaust (a twin loop muffler like the Hytech if he wants performance and quiet), the better it will work overall.

Thanks yes this is where me and friend clash aswell. He wants to keep the stock like appearance. he feels it makes the car more valuable and keeps it classy and he knows he will take a horsepower loss but how much.

Your saying that removing the intake resonator and running a custom air duct will make more power than keeping the stock intake resonator in place? I have heard more than i have seen that removing the resonator creates a loss in power. Of course this is on bolt on equipped type r's. This motor is far from just bolt-ons. I know the stock itr system will work fine especially he is running a aftermarket b pipe(2.25). Check king motorsports itr head dyno. He made 235 on stock itr exhaust system.

search around for an ITR airbox and tube and use a drop in k&n filter and you're all set...

His car has the itr airbox and intake arm and resonator. He is wondering if he should remove the resonator or keep it?

Remove it! It's a bottleneck. Run custom piping to the fender well with larger diameter and a velocity stack and you'll notice a nice difference.
