Icon2 Typical RPM for better mileage and engine life

I got a used '08 civic sedan last month. I would like to know what is the typical RPM that should be maintained on city roads and freeways? Is it good for the engine and mileage to push the RPM above 2K or 3K when the car starts from idle speed?

I want to preserve and use this car for a long long time....
