Howzit,
Names Gareth from South Africa...
Just need to know if anyone knows why my car started making a loud knocking noise, i removed the valve cover and then removed valve lifters and found that the camshaft bearings in the middle were very worn as if being hammered, check out the pics, any advice would be greatly appreciated

could that be the cause of the knocking and what would have caused it?

When is the last time you changed your oil? It looks really contaminated.

I must agree. That is some really filthy oil. Bearings usually fail due to lack of proper lubrication.

Howzit,
Oil has been done during service sessions, since the nocking issue, the car has stood for over a year... please note, this was a work horse not a show car, i didnt tinker with engine thingies or change my oil once a week n stuff... i just descided to give it a go myself now and so here I am, asking for some helpful advice...
would the knocking be comming from what ever caused the bearing to look so hammered?

What would the solution be to replaceing those bearing, because its not loose bearing shells?

How should I proceed?

do you guys think that the pics show enough wear to have been casing the knocking sound, i dont wana go pay for a replacment head n stuff if i may as well replace the entire engine with a jap import or something.... unless that really could be what was causing the knocking

oh, and this is the first engine i opened my self...

Based on the pictures, you are gonna want to replace the head and cam caps, cam, oil pump and oil filter, clean everything as best you can to get the metal shavings out of the engine. Your failure could be due to severely contaminated oil, which makes the oil loose its viscous properties, it could also be a low oil condition that did it in. seeing the cam cap like that could also mean that your rod or main bearings are also toast, i would check those out to make sure. if this is too much work, grab a replacement engine, the swap can be done in under a day.
