Default H22 idle issue

Ive had my h22 swap over a yr I had idle issues before I worked out adjusting throttle body scrww. Well we have had lot of nasty weather in carolinas. Other day car was misfiring bad. I had water in spark plug tubes got that out n idle jumps from 1200 rpms to 1800 have no clue cause. Then got pissed n sprayed carb cleaner in tb. Know I shouldnt I prob messed up a sensor any ideas? Fixes?:

Have you try disconnecting the IACV, turn the idle screw to get the RPM to where you wanted, shut the car off, plug IACV back in, remove the radio fuse under-hood for 10 sec, plug it back in, start it up, and let it idle for a good min without touching the gas pedal.

Radio resets the ECU. By resetting the ECU, it will erase the old memories, and relearn the new changes you've made.

Ur talking about adjusting tb for rpm right? If so I had that adjusted right before and when water, misfire issue it started again. If I adjusted idle on tb it doesny change. Ill have to try n see what happens

But did you disconnect the IACV first before turning the idle screw on the TB? You adjusted before water caused the idle issue though, now do it again then clear the ECU memories.

Try to have it at 500rpm with IACV disconnected.

1. Check for vacuum leaks (pressurize the system with an air compressor)
2. Clean your IACV
3. Check for corrosion on electrical connectors

Since you mentioned that it idles well with the IACV disconnected, your IACV is likely clogged with crud. Clean it out with some carb cleaner and see if that makes a difference. You can also disassemble and rebuild the valve to be sure that it's clean.

Hope this helps.

If the IACV is not clogged with crud....it's probably not working properly and you should replace it. When the valves inside the solenoids wear out it won't push a CEL. the CEL is basically only if there is a problem in the electrical circuit.

On another note, You really shouldn't have to adjust the idle set screw. If you have to start adjusting that, there is usually something else wrong. FITV, vacuum leak or IACV.

ok well l cleaned it out before swap but l did have alot of buildup after driving awhile. so it might need another cleaning and i need to do a radiator flush(left cap off accidently). which also may be part of issue.

Yes an air bubble trapped in the cooling system can cause idle issues as well....

Drain the rad, flush, refill and bleed the system as per the Helms manual. I have never disconnected any hoses for a coolant flush & refill. Make sure you are parked on level ground when you go to bleed the system.

I have never seen anyone disassemble the IACV itself. The part number for the H22 IACV is 36450-P13-004. When looking for this part you will find it under the throttle body parts listing.

Have you checked for a vacuum hose leak or vacuum leak in any of the gaskets/seals on the intake manifold?

Throttle body gasket x 2
Intake manifold plenum gasket x 2
Fuel injector seals x 2/injector
Intake manifold gasket x 1 (manifold 2 head)
Check all vacuum ports and hoses.

ok thanks no l havent physically removed and inspected 100% all those gaskets. they are all fairly new. i have checked all vac hoses, ive gone over everything accept removing and replacing stuff just to see if it will work. allthough l did just notice coolant sensor connector for downstream was carroded and one for the 2 wires was broken. so l had another wire harness from a prelude and cut and soldered/heat shrinked the new connector. hoping that may have been issue.(coolant/idle relation)

Junk Yard or Ebay for a used IAC. I have a couple kicking around here, but I'm not sure if they would fit an H22 IM.

As for checking for gasket leaks. Try the spraying carb cleaner method. You lightly spray carb/throttle body cleaner around each gasket area while the car is running. If you get a drop in RPM while spraying. That means there is a vacuum leak in that area.
