Info: 1996 Honda Accord LX F22B2

Recently part of my Cat Con fell of due to rust issues on the exhaust pipe. I currently do not have anyone to fix it and it is just dangling down on the ground right now. My question is, should I just get a new exhaust system? Just like this: Magnaflow Exhaust System
Or.. Should I get it weld together for 200$ or maybe less? I might do a little performance wise work on the car. Anyone got any advice for me?

 

I had the same issue with my 94 accord LX. I replaced the entire exhaust and cat. Im purchased an OBX catback exhaust from ebay along with OBX headers and magnaflow cat. I love it. Im also looking at the Magnaflow exhaust. Check ebay its $480 shipped. After changing over to OBX header, OBX exhaust and magnaflow cat, I also have a K&N cold air intake, My car does not pass inspection. I dont know why, it did before. I live in New York and they usually put it on the dyno machine

 

If you get it welded, it would only last you a couple of months and will fall back off, that what mienkee tole me

 

You sure its not just the shield that fell off?
If it is tear the SOB off and keep it moving

 

They're full of ****. If someone puts a good weld on it you will have no issues. My shop welds exhausted on an almost daily basis and we have had absolutely no issues with our welds. That would be the cheapest route to go.

 

Yeah but if it is rusted enough that the cat has dropped, there may or may not be much solid metal to weld too. Adding weld to rust isn't worth the material cost never mind $200.

All depends on what your budget is and the current condition of the rest of your exhaust. IMO, welding a rusty mild steel exhaust is the cheaper band aid fix, it's not always a long term fix. The weld could be strong, there is no doubt about that. It's the condition of the rest of the pipe that will continue to rot on ether side of the weld that is usually the issue.

If the pipe before and after the cat is completely rusted and thin. You would be better off buying new pipe to weld, or buying a complete exhaust $$$$$. I would have to see your exhaust to say for sure. In some cases it is just the factory seams, at the flange that rot out. In a case like that, a quick grind to get down to solid material and a weld will work. Maybe a new flange while your at it.

 

This is how it looks like right now. I don't know if that helps. I don't have anything to lift the car up so I can't really take a good picture but this is all I can get.

IMO That looks pretty rough for someone just to pass a weld around it! Probably need a new flange and a few inches of pipe. Doable if you get the right shop that can do it without breaking something else during the repair.

If you want to spend the money on a CAT back exhaust. Now would be the time. Keep in mind that there will be a small amount of work required to get the new B pipe connected to the CAT. If you just want a quick fix it looks as though it could be repaired. If one of your local shops will weld it is another story. You would be best off to get a few quotes from local shops on that.

Honestly If the shop is telling you $200 to give it a quick weld. Then there is a complete exhaust system that can be had for $500 + installation (???). If I had the $600+ I would go for the new exhaust vs a quick fix. but that's just me.

In the end you have to make your own decision. If spending $600+ is going to mean that your cutting it close paying the mortgage or bills. You might want to think it through some more. If spending the extra money means that you won't be able to get an extra case of beer, pack of cigs or a new pair of shoes..... Do it!

 

That's true I gotta save up my money first then. Well I'm most likely going with your plan and buy the whole system

 

ok, got the parts, now the problem is that the middle part of the exhaust that connects to cata. converter is too long.
