Common of course, but I want to know how to go about fixing it myself rather taking it to a shop to fix it.

I have water leaking on both sides of my trunk (the upper part near the rear window) and i'm assuming the leak is being caused by my sunroof water track being clogged or something? I honestly have no idea how that works and seems stupid as **** to have a water track from the sunroof that can leak into the trunk...

The weather stripping around my trunk is fine and I even re-sealed that to make sure and that wasn't the cause. My taillights are sealed cause I re-sealed them as-well.

Prob not sunroof, but to check look in the trunk, pull left and right side carpet you will see the tubes exiting a rubber boot, make sure they are plugged in and not clogged.

This leak is very common, and no one has pinpointed it yet. I have tried many things to fix it and no luck.

 

get a second hand, like your wife, GF, mom

give them your garden hose

you climb in trunk with flashlight.

have then turn on your garden hose and spray the car down.

watch for leak.

fix leak

 

i found my leak to be a quarter size hole on the inside of trunk where the plastic threshold meets the carpet..

move the carpet aside and youll see either a hole or loosely fitting plug. water would run down between metal and tail lights and come right thru the trunk. I finally found it by doing the above method.

 

Was yours on the base of the trunk opening?

my leak was a clogged sunroof drain.

 

Where did it leak from the roof headliner area or lower?

 

Reach your hand under the bumper to left or right of the plastic threashold (basically between your tail lights and trunk area)

where the sheet metal is vertical, youll feel either plastic plugs or a hole(s) where the plugs should be. The water flows behind the tail lights and runs right into these holes filling up the trunk.

I tried to feel back were the hose goes from my windshield to outside my car (in the trunk), but I can't reach my hand far enough up there to feel if it's connected or clogged.

I'll take a picture of exactly were the water leaks in my trunk since it's hard to describe. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with my sunroof though...cause I had a friend pour water on several parts of my car and water seemed to be noticeably more leaky when water was poured on my sunroof. Though since it's mostly ALWAYS wet in that area i'm still not 100% sure.

 

You will not be able to feel that far up it goes up to the headliner. And it is a pain to get up there, you need to remove the side panels and might have to pull the headliner to see where it goes.
