Default Stretched Timing Chain EP3

Hi!

Need to know if my chain is stretched or not but I have no idea how to do it. The car is a Civic Type R EP3 with K20A2. I've checked so the marks on the cam wheels match up (TDC) and I've tried to measure the distance that the piston in the tensioner have been pushed out but no luck as it was hard as h*ll to measure.

Any advice?

usually when the chain stretches it will idle rough and begin throwing cam sensor codes because timing will start to be thrown off.

so would that be a symptom of when you should replace your timing chain?

Thanks for the help, then I think the chain is fine! Will do a leakdown-test on friday that will show if anything is seriously wrong. I'm having misfiring-codes on three cylinders.

I recently have had a number of problems with my ep3. I believe my chain may be stretched. On start up it makes a rumbling sort of noise from the engine department, then when i put my foot down at low revs in a high gear it makes that rumbling noise. It has thrown up the cam sensor fault too on my dash.

Originally thought it was the exhaust resonating from the back (it was in bad shape so needed changing regardless) so spent £300 this week replacing the cat back, only to start it up and the same noise again!!

Can anyone advise me on their thoughts about this? Am i right in thinking its the chain?

Hi

My EP3 threw up the error P0341, I swapped the camshaft sensors around to eliminate it with no luck. It was later found to be a stretched timing chain. The car had only done 68K.

Recently filmed the process of replacing it all, check it out below.

i have a rough idle and timing marks are slightly off. No cam code but misfire code does come up on all 4 cylinders and compression is a lil low but is pretty much the same all across.

stretched chain??
