Default Figuring out what kind of exhaust to get

Hey all, so I finally got the car running. I am currently running a JRSC w/ spoon header, cat, and mugen exhaust. I feel very restrictive and a lot of people have said that. I would like to get recommendations from people on whats a good set-up for JRSC as it pertains to the exhaust.

Please keep in mind I do not want anything too loud, the mugen is just perfect but too restrictive. I dont mind going straight pipe either and just slapping on the cat for smog.

Thanks

Not to knock the spoon header but its proven the Kamikazie header is better for supercharged applications. Look it up. I actually have one I took off my Type r a month ago. If you interested in PM me. Also Mugen made a 2.5 inch mugen twin loop that would not be restrictive. I have one as well but I can't part with it.

If YOU feel restrictive then I recommend a good laxative..
But,if your setup feels restrictive then like^said the kamikaze header for sc apps and maybe a thermal or vibrant 3" catback..good luck w the restrictions(personal or auto)

^+1 for thermal.

Great stock-"ish" looking exhaust w/correct piping sizes for FI cars.

Well I am having coffee to help with my personal restrictiveness.

As for the ITR, I will look into kamikaze header, I just do not want to over spend and figure I would start at the exhaust.

I think the mugen exhaust that oldintegrao is speaking of is the Hytech twin loop?

How is the sound of the Thermal and Vibrant 3"

Its like a WS2 on a small cycle of steroids.

Honestly its hard to describe a sound, I'd say Youtube it but that will only do the exhaust partial justice as far as tones are concerned.

Your best bet in my opinion would be to balance out the two differentials to the best of your ability. Restriction or Noise level???...the Thermal is about as good as your going to get as far as having your cake and eating it too.

Just my $.02

As for the Kamikaze header, this is what I found on their site, which one is recommended?

AIH17005-BC Kamikaze High Temp. Black Coating, 4-1 Header
(94-01 Acura Integra Type R)

AIH17005-NP Kamikaze Nickel Polish Chrome, 4-1 Header
(94-01 Acura Integra Type R)

AIH17005-C Kamikaze High Luster Ceramic Coating, 4-1 Header
(94-01 Acura Integra Type R)

AIH17005-21/2BC Kamikaze High Temp. Black Coating, 4-1 Header W/21/2" Downpipe Outlet
(94-01 Acura Integra Type R)

AIH17005-21/2NP Kamikaze Nickel Polish Chrome, 4-1 Header W/21/2" Downpipe Outlet
(94-01 Acura Integra Type R)

AIH17005-21/2C Kamikaze High Luster Ceramic Coating,4-1 Header W/21/2" Downpipe Outlet
(94-01 Acura Integra Type R)

They stated on their site that the 2 1/2 downpipe outlet, it will need modification, what kind of modification?

^^^^^ Exactly what he said kamikazie header + mugen twin loop take out the cat and if needed have the exhaust/ fabricated so you can slap it in for smog. the twin loop will restrict the sound somewhat but not the power which is what you want and need at least a 2.5 exhaust system.. you can also look into other kinds of exhaust such as this one.. even tho its a different charger (Rotrex my favorite ) you can get the idea of the sound (even tho he has much more air flow which will make it a bit quieter) and i believe he has a high flow cat. I'm going to quote this again because it's quite true.
What's amazing is how much of a difference I felt just by merely removing a DC 4-1 with the 2.5" collector and bolting the Kamikaze in place of it. It felt better right off idle to the red line.

As far as the exhaust issue goes I can tell you what NOT to do is use an Apex N1 c/b or anything like that. With no cat it is so freaking loud as soon as the boost comes on. Put the silencer in and it cuts the noise by 70% but it sounds nasally and it's very restrictive. It actually increased 2 PSI with it in but the car was a tad slower.

I can't imagine how loud it would be with any 3" exhaust!

Whatever piping you use just make sure there is some kind of straight through resonator between where the cat is and the muffler to help harness some of the noise.

Also my car was tuned where VTEC engaged @ 3K rpm's with at least 4 PSI to trigger it. Ever heard the violent crossover with a AEM/CAI on an ITR? Well all that noise moves to the exhaust with a JRSC and is multiplied 10 fold with a straight through exhaust. $.02

Haha, I'm not the only person to notice that. When I took of my supercharger, I advanced the timing I thought my motor was going to blow because all the noise was in the engine bay, but before it was in the exhaust.

As much as I love boost I'll agree there"s NOTHING like the sound of the C5 crossover on an ITR with a CAI! Even more with ITB's.

LOL that pics just kills me. Years ago when I 1st installed the AEM/CAI my wife was in the passenger seat, windows down, 2nd gear and then it hit. I believe if it weren't for the seat belt there would be a dent in the roof skin. That was priceless! I must say I wasn't looking for that much of announcement from a little 1.8 either haha.

If I had a SC this is the way I would go.

I wonder how loud that would be. 3" exhaust + a SC......I'd like to hear that for sure.

i have a 3 inch on my turbo gsr with a vibrant resonator and a vibrant muffler. wastegate is atmospheric. its like the gates of hell when boost hits at 4.1k and then even louder when vtec crosses over and engages at 6.0krpms.

3 inch on a FI application sounds disgusting and will not disappoint ;-)

^^^I've heard many different turbo builds through a 3" but 8-12 psi on SC'd set ups with a header into a 2.5" was absolutely horrible once the crossover came in @ 3K. At least on a turbo motor the compressor itself kinda holds back some sound waves depending on what kind of turbo it is. On a JRSC there's nothing but a sonic blast wave looking for a way out with nothing to stop it.
