He said he will do all body work (quarter panel is dented in and front driver fender has a little dent) and do door jams and trunk and under the hood. ONLY THING HE WONT DO IS THE ENGINE BAY, but will paint the inside of the trunk and the outsides of the engine bay.

can anyone help? i need to know its urgent because im going to take my car to him tomorrow for the paint job, but i dont want to be losing in this deal /=
thats a pretty cheap price, i would be concerned about what kind of products he uses. Ask him what kind of paint hes gunna put down, depending on the brand and series line of product, it could last 10 years to 10 rainy day. check out some of his previous work.
and by the way, i really honestly appreciate your reply.
thank you
ask him what name brand stuff he has, witch area in cali is it? From the pics the car seem pretty straight he prob wont have that much body work to do. I would really take your time looking to a high quality paint job, if you plan on keeping your car for a while. I had a body shop repaint my 67' camaro and trusted the guy with what he said, "cut out all the rust," to find out 6 months later and 7,000$ later that he just bondo everything, and had moisture under the paint witch bubbled up. I ended up redo it my self, took three and half years and about 4,000.
$1300 seems pretty low. I would look at other paint jobs he has done. I dont think the shop will disclose the supplies and paint brands they use as most shops will cheap out on you and tell you you are getting PPG. I for one cant not tell PPG paint once its reduced and laid down

$1300 is a pretty low price, but then again, it's probably cause he owns a small shop and is doing all the work himself instead of paying others. Just cause it's a cheap price, doesn't mean he does a crappy job. He just doesn't have to pay a lot of overhead. Me personally would charge around the same price as long as there's not a lot of damage needing to be fixed

Paint, material, can labor already cost more than 1300. I think its a deal to go electron blue for 1300 instead of having some many different colors on your car.
(Lay several coats of clear on that bad boy to help last you 7-10years with proper maint). Mines has about 2 gallon of clear on it. Thick and glossy after the cut and polish. I can cut right to the edges without having to worry about any burns.
A good body prep, paint, and cut/polish will set you back atleast 4k min. Taking that the dude better be a neat and picky freak about his work. G/L

has he done anything else? i would look at other things he has done then i would judge my decesion on that. I have painted a car for a grand that was just me doing the job made the guy buy the material. I didnt little dent work and then did the jams and the outside.

yeah 2 gallons of clear is a lot, the makers of the clear will have a recommend thickness (coats) of clear they want you to put, its usally around 2-4 coats any more than that will look nice but, "it will look like glass, but will also crack just like glass" I just finished a buddies ef hatch and i used about a gallon and a quart of clear including door jams interior and engine bay, everything got 3 heavy coats.
2 gallons of clear is a waste IMO. Simply spraying 3-5 layers of clear is perfectly fine, cause after you wet sand, you're gonna take off about 1-2 coats anyways. The more clear you put on doesn't mean it's gonna be super glossy, it's all about the cutting and buffing afterwards, but to each their own.
When you get your car back, post some pics up and let us know how it turned out.
