Default b18c1 toda help please!

ok guys, i jumped into a all motor build and im now realizing i may be in to deep!! i have a b18c1, the build hasnt went past the head yet, so i have toda spec c's toda cam gears toda valve springs and am runnng flat faced valves new guides titanium retainers ect. head will be ported polished valvejob all that good stuff..BUT, ive gotten to the point im gettin into the bottom end and uh oh!!! im lost lol, this car is goin to be once maybe twice a month drivin car but we have no tracks close so it will be drove around town some...i understand even tuned its never gona run well in town but what kind of compression should i run? i was wanting to tune on 93 octane seeing as we only have a small airport i could possibly fuel at that would cost a fortune if i had to run anything higher. im not shooting for crazy top end more autox style driving. anyone have a similar setup or kno wich direction i should go on this bottom end? any help appriciated thanks

The Toda Spec Bs and Spec C cams need to have at least 11.5:1-12.0:1 compression to work properly. They are fantastic cams to utilize the B18C1 powerband. I currently use these camshafts and though there will be others shortly around to say to get something else, I can honestly say after being in the Honda game for over 14 years, I couldn't have picked a better camshaft for their use (if street and street/road race) purposes.

Here's an example of my build using them. Please focus on pages 5-6. I originally had Jun 3s at first, and switched to something much more reasonable yet still providing a great powerband.

How's the wear with TODA cams though? Could be all talk but I heard they have steep ramp rates that beat the shift out of the rockers and such?

It's all bullsh!t talk. My brother has a set going on 10 years on the cams with no issues, (same rockers and LMAs). I'm on year 3 myself for my NA car and year 6 with my turbo car.. Its all on how the spring install heights are set for cams doing that. (Brother's car is Type R NA w/ Spec Cs, my Civic has Spec Bs, and my turbo Time Attack car has Spec As).

TODA POWER!!!!!

Brother's DC2-R Toda C

awesome!!! see i was looking at trying to run super high compression like 13:1 or 13:5 for my spec c's but unfortunatly fuel is a issue in my area, but i could tune on 93 octane at 12:1 cr but i didnt kno if that compression would be high enuf for the spec c's, i just want sumthing thats gona be reliable and make some decent power and that deff makes me feel better bout my build thanks

No problem. You definitely don't need 13.0:1. If anything you'd have to reduce timing as though it were much less. So stay about 11.5:1-12.5:1 and you'll be fine.

Actually, since none go to a drag strip, they're all weekend warriors at either Gingerman, Beaver or LimeRock, so they all could qualify. None of them are driven "daily" any longer. I have a regular 03 Accord for daily duty. Roads (and subsequent thefts) are too bad here to have those for daily purposes. But I like each car equally for different reasons. The simplest to drive is my brother's DC2-R. Simple, powerful, effective, fun...What more could you ask for?

did you have to sleeve ur block running these compressions? and also you ever heard if a stroker crank would be good to run with the spec c's?

Any dyno graphs or insight on how they perform? A funny concern to have when modifying a motor for more performance is how is the gas mileage?

I only sleeved the block on the Turbo TA Integra from back in 2003. The others are all stock sleeved. sleeving and compression ratio don't have much relevance to one another until you start boring the cylinders

When you mean "stroker" I assume 2.1 and 2.3 litre kits? I have no experience with any positive or negative effects of using those size stroker kits with those camshafts. Most who run Toda are either VERY specific with getting these cams with what they have or are from different countries in which neither "stroker" kits are used nor concerned with.

Black DC2-R is running a Power Enterprise timing belt. the others are running TODA RACING timing belts. Normal wear to belt, rockers, and LMAs.

Here we go. 2 IM manifolds compared on the chart.
b18c with PCTs, untouched b16a2 head, RC440s, SMSP B19 header

I am burning 10liters ($2.35 per liter) of 100oct fuel in 100kms. Calculate...

Degreed them to (on the dyno for best overall performance) about 99, 106 instead of the factory 105, 105.
