You can use a specific shim to make a B18B bearing work in a GSR trans. We used to do that back in the day. What we do now is use the Type R Ball Bearings that are made with the offset center versus using a shim to gain the center offset. The OEM Part number for them is: 91005-P80-E31
We have them available if you can't find them. Let me know

mind sharing how you use a b18b bearing. i am cheap, i picked up a gsr tranny from a junk yard for 75$ that had a cracked housing i bought it for junk. the gears and syncros look new. i have a ls housing i want to put the gsr internals in and if i can use b18 bearing i got a brand new pair. I cant wait to get the tranny on my turbo setup.

There is a kit that come with three shims. Two of the shims go between the bearings and the differential (one one each side of the differential) to make them the same offset as the type r. the other shim goes between the bearing and the transmission case.

Gearspeed, I ordered type r bearings and was sent b18b bearings and the shim kit instead. I was just wondering if other people had used this before. I was debating on sending them back and getting what I originally ordered but I think I will just use them.

When converting a tapered bearing to a ball bearing style you will need to change the case shim. The 2 shims under the bearings are made by MFactory and allow you to use B18B ball bearings with a B18C diff. You can use the B18B bearings with the shim kit or the B18C bearings with the offset built in. Either one will work fine.

i think after doing some looking i can use a 1.5mm shim between the diff and the bearings. I then can use regular stock diff shim. b16a/b18b bearings are 80mm x 40mm x 18mm thick and type r are 80mm x 40mm x 19.5mm thick.
