Hybrid s20 Tranny
I have decided I am going to do a hybrid d16 transmission in the upcoming weeks. I already have a s20 transmission so I will be using that. So far this is what I am thinking:
92-95 ex transmission
stock 4.25 Final Drive
1st - 3.25
2nd - 1.9
3rd - 1.565 (from mfactory)
4th - 1.172 (use 3rd from 96-00 dx/lx as 4th)
5th - .702
First has anyone tried this setup? The shift point from 2nd to 3rd is wicked. With 205/45/16 tires and a 7200 rpm redline, 4th gear should end right at 100 mph.
Is the 1.172 3rd gear from a 96-00 a direct fit as a 4th gear into a 92-95 transmission, or is there boring/notching required? Any advice is appreciated.

Two of the people I wanted to hear from
. Ok I am new to this so I have to ask out of curiosity, why are you asking me what "1 - (1.172/1.565)" equals? I was worried about the 3-4 shift but I entered the data into a theoretical gear ratio calculator, and it didn't SEEM to bad. Shifting at 7200 rpm and landing at around 5400 I think is what it showed. Right now I am used to DX gearing, so that might explain a lot as to why it doesn't seem so bad. However, knowing that you have knowledge in this area I am going to take your advice on the zc 3-4 gears. Can anyone point me in the right direction to a person or place that is selling a used zc transmission or gears.

S20 CX/VX 3rd is a lot easier to find than ZC and still works pretty well. Can be flipped and used for 4th with no machining necessary. I built one Z6 tranny with this setup, didn't change anything else, I was just using stuff I had laying around, didn't want to spend any money on it. Seemed work well, but I only took it for one very short test drive as I didn't have the civic it went into inspected, registered or insured at the time, as a matter of fact I still don't, need to fix a hole in the floor and throw some front end parts and tires on it.
