vtec problem b16a
i have a b16a in a obd0 ef with obd0 b16a 5 speed ecu. but for some odd reason my car is redlining at 7200 and the vtec is not engaging. I have taken the solenoid off and check it yes it clicks likes its suppose to so i clean the filter and put it all back together, take her for a drive and bam same **** 7200....any help please. getting pissed off
Also my ecu is throwing code 21. which has to do with the solenoid. lmk something

i have rechecked all the wiring and its all correct..weird thing about it is sometimes it will redline at 8200 how its suppose.
and since i have had it vtec does not work, but the car had a single cam ecu hook up when i bought it and i put the pr3 obd0 in and it runs fine. just no vtec

Pin A8 on your ecu is the only pin that pertains to that specific code.
code 22 would be the pressure switch at pin B5.
first check your connections, the solenoid itself might be malfunctioning. depending on what kind of tools you have the second thing you may want to do is pick up a solenoid from an ex civic at the junk yard

yeah i know the solenoid plugs into a8 but there is something plugged into it already should i run my own wire from the vtec noid and splice into the one in a8 as well to have them both connected?
and i know its not the noid i took it off last night and ran it to the battery it click everytime

there really isnt a common vtec problem thats not easy to spot. its your solenoid, oil pressure/ passages, wiring, ecu, and iv heard of them not engaging due to faulty lmas. never in person tho. it could be part of a bigger timing problem i guess?
im at work right now but as soon as i get off i can take a pic and send it to you,
phone number to send it too?
And im gunna check all the grounds again for the fourth time and make sure there perfect.
Also another question people are telling me that obd0 cant run vtec which is bs cause they wouldnt make the ecu, but there telling me to change the ecu and dizzy over to obd1 and it will fix it ?? i want it to work without switching it.
thanks for your help btw

How about you post a picture here so more people can help you. A lot of vtec problems are because of wiring or wrong ecu, The pressure switch has 2 wires, one going to the ecu, and one ground. the solenoid itself has one wire going to the ecu. Find the pinout on your ecu and run the 2 wires straight. and the ground run to the bolt to your solenoid.
your right it is bs. obd0 vtec does definitely exist. i definitely suggest running your own wires. take a pic of the engine code, the vtec plug, and the wiring/ plugs at your ecu and post them on this thread. this is all the info and pic you should need to get your wiring figured out.
A8 VTEC solenoid
B5 VTEC oil pressure switch
1. on the two wire plug (green in the picture) you can ground that out to pretty much any bolt under the hood. i grounded mine out to a bolt that attaches the solenoid to the head.
2. on the two wire plug (orange in the picture) run that to pin b5
3. single green wire coming out of solenoid goes to a8
***TIP OF THE DAY: trying to figure out wiring on cars with engine swaps is generally a losing battle. just run new wires yourself or have someone who knows what they are doing run wires

apparently you might need this too. but id say if you dont know how to read plugs you probably shouldnt be running wires. but heres the info anyway.
HOW TO COUNT PINS
HOW TO COUNT PINS
From reading all the post and previous swaps i know how to do the wiring but the thing that i don't get is my a8 pin is not empty it has a yellow wire going to it.
I'm going to take pics right now be right back to post them.
I lost last night simply because i didn't have vtec i was right on the people i ran bumpers with vtec i would have left em

so my phone died in the middle of taking pics but the cord that is plugged into a8 is yellow with brown dots? should i just splice into that one just to see if the vtec kicks in and then run it the right way ?
let me know if you need any other pics im seriously gonna figure this **** out...thanks for all your help. i appreciate it..

clip that yellow wire at a8 BUT LEAVE ENOUGH WIRE TO STRIP IT AND ATTACH ANOTHER WIRE. run a wire from the ECU pin A8 to the single wire coming off the solenoid. drive car. report.
(the yellow wire used to go to something else "lock up solenoid" but it doesnt matter anymore)

Its me Beastingef on my friends account.
the yellow wire (with brown) runs to the fuels pump, at least thats what we think because there isnt any other wire of that color in the car, only from ecu and from fuel pump.
but vtec works hooking it up as said. running awesome
now there is a new problem..
have the car running perfect, ran it a few times from a dig and roll. park car. sits a few minutes and wont start back up.
upon ignition the dash lights only flash on then cut off quickly. the car wont crank at all and loses all power, including fan. so we redo all ground on car, sand down etc. we tried starting the car right from the starter, we tried push starting.. nothing.
btw the windows wont roll up but theres still power (lights work)
