Hey guys, I have new doors to put on my eg.

I see that theres two sections w/ two bolts. but the little door pin thing?

not sure how to take off and put on. do I need a special tool?

would really like to know before I get into it and get stuck because of a special tool and then have no doors on it lol.

anyone know a diy for this, or have any experience on this?

I have searched web and only get door "panel" threads....

remove the fender .....next open the door roll the window down ..... with a small hammer and a puch knock out the pin for the door check .....close the door so it latches closed < note latch = third hand > .. now remove the 4 bolts holding for the hinges starting with the bottom .. when you are taking out the last bolt <top >you should have 1 hand holding the door frame to the body .... once the last bolt is out grab the handle to release the latch and don't drop it as it will always land on your foot

 

There is a simpler way.

1. Take a hammer and knock the pin out of the keeper post.
2. With the door open (not all the way), unplug the harness connector where it goes into the door.
3. Unbolt the very top and very bottom hinge bolts that go into the frame of the car. You can use a ratchet with an extension to get to these, or use a ratcheting wrench if you don't wanna risk messing up the paint.
4. Remove the inner upper and lower hinge bolts that go into the frame, careful not to let the door drop and hurt the car... or you.
5. Slowly drop the door out. It helps to have a friend.

Installation is the reverse of removal, and it definitely helps to have a friend help you line up the door while you get the hinge bolts started into the frame by hand. I've actually swapped all 4 doors on my sedan and it was a cake job.

Get a friend to help you, those doors get really heavy really fast when you're trying to start a bolt with one hand and hold the door with the other, especially on a 2 door car.

 

Very relevant question...when you bang the pin out with a hammer, should you be able to replace the same pin or does hammering it out damage it and I should buy a new one? I'm attempting to install and alarm and need to run two wires from the door back to the dash for the door lock/unlock, from what I can tell. Unless somebody else has a better way to access the green/red and green/white for the lock/unlock. These wires are located in the door. I think I need to remove the door to gain proper access

 

You can acess the wires in the drivers kick panel, behind the carpet.

 

Sorry to take this post over. Are they in the bundle that runs alongside the driver's seat? I couldn't find them but they're so easy to get to, I'll be happy to take another look. I can see the bundle coming from the door but it's tough for me to gain access to tap into them. Are they the same colors (green/red & green/white)? Thank you.
