Shaved door handles... How do they work?

Depends on how good the body shop that does the job is. Basically you remove the door handle, grind down the paint around the hole, weld in a piece of metal to cover the hole, grind it all to make it smooth, then re-prime and paint. Then you install a door popper inside the door, hooked up to a remote, to pop the door open when you hit the button.
It looks alright on some cars, but don't ever plan on participating in any sort of sanctioned racing or motorsports event, because they won't let you in without operable door handles (for safety/emergency reasons).
*edit* woohoo post number 3000!

dont do it, it looks nice and all, but its a pain in the *** for everything. from valet to pumping gas. ur routine first will be to roll the window down ALL THE TIME. that way if u step out of the car with the motor on, u wont get locked out. and overtime the bondo will crack and the solenoid will get all ffucked. if ur batt dies, guess what? instant BMW (break my window) or u have to window bend that ****. lots of headache and pain. cool factor is about an 8 while pain factor is about a 15.

ok, my car didnt have a metal rod to open the door if i was locked out. but kudos to u for remembering to do that. my body work didnt crack but it was the paint. u could see a hairline crack due to the closing and open of the door too much, but that could have been the bodyshop's problem. i still think it was a pain though, this is if u go race or valet the car. trying to explain how to use the alarm and what not was a pain. sometimes it take forever for them to get the car. it looks clean for a show car and all, but daily abuse i wouldnt reccomend it. solenoids can go bad too, like i said earlier. but whatevers, if u want it, make sure u get it done right and have a back up plan incase ur batteries die or u lose ur keys.

I did all the electrical work with the solenoids and alarm...my bodyshop guy shaved the side moulding and handles and took out a nasty dent (wish he took out the one in the back too
) for a lil over a grand.
