Default New Tires Question

I'm looking to get new tires for my car. I currently have 15" rims and coilovers. I really don't want to go any lower with the car, so I'd like to get a beefier tire to fill some of the gap. I've seen EG's befoe with thichker sidewall'd tires and they look really good. I'm just not sure what side they are running. Currently I have 205/45/R15's. If you guys have pictures or experiences with anything, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Running 195/65-15s on my EM1 at stock height. No rubbing issues, rides better than the stock 195-55s

Thanks for the fast replies guys. I just edited my first post. It turns out I'm running 45 on the sidewall right now and not 40. If any of you guys have the thicker tires and have pics, it is much appreciated if you can post.

Yep. I'm getting old. Took my EM1 all the way around the block.
Bought brand new in 2000, slammed it to the ground, had 17s on it, body kit, Tein SS coilovers, autocrossed it for a while, turboed the stock B16, blew up the stock B16, built it up, turboed that, made just shy of 500whp, drag raced for a while, ditched body kit, ditched the built motor, stock suspension, going all back to stock. Almost done with it. Just a few more little things and she'll be back to factory style.

I'm thinking that I may go up to a 55 sidewall with the 205 width. I need some rubber on the ground for traction. Turbo breaks them loose pretty easily. LOL

That's just about the way it goes I guess. I'd like to have a decent ride, but also keep the looks decent as well. I think a 55 sidewall would be perfect because it's a nice balance. Here is a link to a guy that put 195/55/R15 on his car and it looks about what I want.

205/50/R15 are definitely the way to go.

55 looks somewhat balloony. Go with 205/50/15 and get a tire that is stickier

look to a nitto neo gen.. they have beefier sidewalls and run a little on the larger size to fill up the gap. great traction and wear.

neo gens are not that good. two of my tires had bubbles and made my car wobble from side to side. took me the longest to figure out why my car was doing that. tires lasted me about a little over a year, it still have tread too, but the bubbles ruined tires.

Running Yokohama S-Drives, that were recommended to me, and haven't been disappointed with them.

+1
I run those on stock suspension.
Comfy ride and extreme stability in corners.
I run on Dunlop Direzza Star Specs Z1.
Bridgestone Potenza RE11 are awesome tire too, but more expensive.

If you want a summer tire I can certainly recommend the Yokohama S. Drive. It's got the best wet traction and fuel mileage of most of it's competitors and is among the cheapest as well. It seems to have been a tire rack favorite for some time now.

The Nitto Gen is a solid tire too, I had them for ~8,000 miles and love them the whole time. I regret using the Nitto because I live in GA and have no need for "winter capable" tires since it hardly ever snows here, much less ice.

Read reviews on tire rack. Read the testing results, not the opinions of some hacks driving fast in their whatevers. What's important is what tire professionals think of them.

There isn't an all season tire out there that can hold a candle to a good summer tire. Period. The nitto gen was sticky for what it is, but doesn't compare at all to my S. Drives. Great tire.

You recommended them to me and I don't regret picking those up. Excellent tire.

Haha. Been needing a name change for a long time. I doubt they'd let me so soon. Not often they let users do it I don't think. It's weird for me too but I'll ride this pony till she gets tired.

You wound up with the Nitto? Or the S. Drive?

Well, the only way they will have bubbles in the sidewalls is if you ran into something. Stay off curbs and anything else that will **** up a tire and they'll be fine.. bubbles will happen to any tire if they get hit hard enough to **** up the side walls.

Ive had 3 sets of Neo Gens and not 1 problem and great grip for a summer tire.

everyones experiences will vary i guess.

Have you compare Toyo Proxes (which model of Proxes) with Dunlop Direzza Star Spec , because I heard that the Toyos have softer sidewall.

The Dunlops are excellent tires for the price.
50% of the people where I race, on autoX events, run those tires, and everyone is very satisfied. The rest run on Kumhos and Toyos. I heard the guy with Toyos that he will never run them again on autoX , because of the soft sidewall.
