So my '98 Civic EX was completely fine. And then this morning started acting a little funny. It started running rough... but was still running. After it sat for about 6 hours, I went to start it back up and it started, running really rough, the battery light came on, while the car was still running, and I lost my power steering completely. I turned the car off, and when I let it click over, the battery light and the oil light came on and did not click off. Anyone have any ideas? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm at a loss. Thank you!

 

Is the starter cranking the engine fine?

 

yes. It starts up just fine.

 

What's the current problem?

 

I have no power Steering, the battery light is on, while the engine runs, and the engine runs rough...almost like metal on metal... I didn't get a chance to check the oil, since I was parked in a dark street when this happened and didn't have any light on me at all...but if the oil was low, I would assume the oil light would come on if my engine were about to blow up. And I don't think my oil being low would cause my power steering to go out and my battery light to come on??

 

Check whether the power steering and alternator belts snapped.

Yeah, I'm guessing the belts snapped or something. Those are two unrelated problems. The belts may also be slipping. Sometimes the alternator bearing will seize up and you'll get loud squealing from the belts as the engine turns.
