Default Street cam tuning

I have a stock B18B1 with Crower stage 2 (403) cams. I'm revving to 8000 RPMs. I'm logging with Freelog and tuning with Crome on the street.

What's the best way to adjust my cams for best power? Is there some data I can check in the log that will help me to determine which run is pulling in the most air? Would MAP values tell me? Maybe a combination of fuel / AFR? I would like to find some reliable way so that I can repeat this process over and over.

Rent a dyno for 1-2 hours and call it a day.

Not an unexpected response, but not a totally helpful one. I will have access to a dyno eventually but at this point the street is all I've got.

But still, you didn't answer the question. Is there any useful data from any of the sensors to help determine air flow or not?

Sure, you can use a generic speed versus time calculation to figure out a theoretical power plot. You could also go to the track and look at trap speeds.

Nothing will replace the dyno where you can see the results in a controlled environment.

You can also see if cam adjustments lean or richen the AFR.

Vega's right. On your setup....stock B18B1 and just those cams....Going to be tough to see any real change in parameters via logging to really know what's best. Big turbo setup with say Pro 1s....much easier to see when she wants more/less fuel/timing. Your setup....just rent a dyno for an hour.

Thanks guys, I'll go back to using an accelerometer until I hit the dyno.

Make sure you don't eat taco bell before... it may throw off the readings when you fart :-)

Haha, I've found one that seems to be at least consistent: Clockwork Autologger for the Android. The bad part is that it shows how truly slow my car is. But like I said, the numbers are consistent which is what counts when tuning.

Lol if direct ECU datalogging is too imprecise for tuning there's no way a phone accelerometer will be precise enough.

Freelog doesn't log acceleration, just speed and time. Which means I have to pull out my spreadsheet software and run some calculations. Waaaay too slow. My phone accelerometer will tell me when it starts dropping off. I know right when I do the run but no, it is not accurate enough.

Get your data into the right format and you can use this:

http://www.bradbarnhill.com/projects/VirtualDyno/

not sure how accurate it is as far as tuning goes but it should be fun to play with.

What's your favorite / most effective method for getting the most power out of a street tune?

Vacuum guage will tell you how much air you're pulling in at idle... But these guys are right. The dyno is your friend
