So I recently removed my ps and I know there's lines that run to the rack and pinion to keep it lubricated. I was wondering if cars that don't come stock with ps have a different kind of rack and pinion? If so would I be able to get any rack and pinion and swap it out into my civic? Also if yes is it easy? Thanks in advance.
You want to make sure and seal off the lines. Most people loop the two lines and cap off the third one, that's what I did. Just make sure it is sealed up and has some fluid in it so it doesn't corrode, dry out, and burn up. They make manual steering racks but if yours is good there isn't any need to swap it out, they are kind of a pain to do.
There were a very select few 96-00 Civics that did not come with P/S from the factory. Most likely in the "lower" end hatchbacks.
Otherwise, you can find an EG non P/S rack and use that. However, you would have to convert the sub frame to one from an EG along with the front sway bar I believe, too. I am fairly certain that everything else on your vehicle will work with the EG rack.
