Default DynaMat

Anyone know a cheap way to make the rattle go away, DynaMat isnt cheap (15bucks a sq foot) geez we probably need to coat most of the GSR trunk. Anything else we can use.

I havent done my car yet...but I am planning on doing my entire trunk with it...the rear deck is going to get a layer....also going to take my doors apart and put a layer or two on the doors....from what I have heard...it makes some what of a difference in making things less noisy.

I used brown bread, its great stuff. I took off my door panels and put some of the mat on the inside of the ousdide sheet metal, like the part thats painted (if that makes sense...) then i put more mat over all the holes on the inside part of the door to make it air tight. then i put a lot of mat on my whole hatch area. try to make it air tight if you have a system and dont want rattling. after you put it all down, tap on certain parts and if they seem real resonant then add more layers till it sounds like more of a thud when u hit it.and make sure you get all the air bubbles out.

u can use carpet padding for pretty cheap too, most of the korean manufacturers use it in their cars already behind the panelling. cheap and effective.
I used to work at Best buy and there is ungodly markup on dynamat, with my discount it was like 70% off. i had my accord coated in dynamat. It didn't even work completely and i used almost all dynamat extreme.

get those panels in the rear speaker location, you gotta reach behind the actual mount (this is all with the plastic sides off) it will allow you to get to the sheet metal of the actual body, Brown bread that, and the doors for the biggest dampening difference.

As for rattles, license plate (throw some 3m double sided window insulating tape behind it) is usually a huge one.

RAAMmat is almost exactly the same as Dynamat. Quality stuff without the brand name. You want RAAMmat 60, it's identical to Dynamat Xtreme.

Other people have tried Peal N Seal from their local Lowes or Home Depot and had great results. It's pretty cheap too.

I have 248 square feet of RAAMmat 60 in my '95 Civic. I don't have any of my interior put back in except the dash, and my car is already a world of difference quiter than it was before I started. I'm extremely happy.

both dynamat and carpet underpadding are useful, not every part of the car needs tha same type of dampener, underpadding can be purchased at any home depot or carpet store. you will also need to buy adhesive which they will probably seel right next to it, if it does not have an adhesive back.

i would highly suggest raamat from http://www.raamaudio.com or ebay. The guy is an awesome guy to deal with...he REALLY knows his stuff. Excellent customer service, and if you live in San Diego/ oceanside, you can pick it up, like I did.

You would not...thats because there are some things you guys don't realize.

STOPPING RATTLES
You need to add mass to a panel to alter its resonant characteristics so that it won't rattle at the frequencies you play at now.

To add panel mass you need dynamat, brownbread, rammmat etc.. foam is obviously too light and therefore no difference.

STOPPING NOISE
To stop noise you need something that will absorb the sound, ie. carpet padding, foam spray, liner etc. This stuff will hinder the sound from actually reaching your ears.

Coles: Use a combination of both mass adding and absorbing materials to get the most out of your vehicle...

yeah..what rage said. plus with the foam, you need to make sure the area your filling is super tight with foam. you can use duct tape to seal it off then fill it. if the metel cant move then it cant rattle.

BE CAREFUUUULLLLL when your working with spray foam.
that stuff gets all over the place and its really sticky.
so test some out on a shoe box, and make sure u get the hang of it.
dont get it on your vinyl or cloth or leather, it might not come off.
good luck, have fun

Ok, my situation's not ICE related, but more along the lines of exhaust noise. It's pretty "quiet" from outside the car...but inside it's sometimes unbearable and now that my girl's pregnant I heard that it can't be exposed to loud noise. What can I do to keep the exhaust for performance but quiet it down for passengers??

I'm running a 2.5" tubing cat back w/ a 22" long cherry bomb [as resonator] and a dual DTM muffler. Even w/ the cherry bomb "resonator" it's still too f'kin loud. Any thoughts??

If you use expanding foam, you run the risk of bending your trunk lid....be very careful when filling a trunk lid with this stuff. you should use the latex based variety so that it won't squeak when cured. Also don't use the superexpanding style....use the low expanding type.

I would actually drill holes in the stiffening braces...that way, if you add too much, it will spill out the holes rather then warp your trunk lid.

Has anyone used this before to stop speaker rattles in stock locations?
