Default d17a2 N/A build

so i have been thinking about a build i would like to do. Everyone is saying you cant build up a n/a d17a2 and get 200hp. I beg to differ. i have been searching around, and i have found so many performance options. if i take the d17 block, and bore it out to 81mm, with 12.5:1 comp. new rods, port n polish the head, stage 2 turbo cams cuz they have larger lobs which mean the valves will stay open longer, and all the normal internal **** to run with the cams. A larger throttle body, a throttle body spacer, d16y8 intake manifold port matched to a 1.7, larger injectors, and a tuned rsx type s ecu, tuned on k pro. I def. think that will give me 200hp, if not very close in the 190's.

lilrak anything is possible, but what do you think a 200whp single cam will cost you?

Why the goal of 200hp? How did you determine that this was reasonable, attainable, necessary or valid?
Unfortunately there is a large mountain of opposition between you and your goal. The route you’re going, the first level you’re likely to find are members of forums like this. Like Pyro has already hinted at all motor single cam builds (of significant power levels) are very expensive compared other options like DOHC swaps and turbo set-ups. Almost everyone in this forum (and many others) will try to talk you out of it.

Something else; your seeming lack of research/knowledge at this stage may bite hard when it catches up to you. I understand that this may be the beginning of your research. If so my suggestion would be to start scouring the web for examples of similar builds. Pink2’s all motor D-series CRX is an example of a build that broke the 200whp mark. But it’s a non-streetable, purpose-built dragster…

Finally, this list you’ve given already won’t quite cut it. you need more compression, a real hot cam.. a larger TB alone won’t do either. You’ll need ITB’s to get up there. I’ll admit I’m no expert when it comes to ECUs and tuning equipment, but I haven’t seen a build this ambitious succeed on anything short of stand alone fuel management.

I’m with you, 200whp is possible on a D17. But it’s not at all practical, it’s a poor value and it’s well out of reach for all but the best builders, racers and tuners.

stop everything x2. as soon as you bore it out. it no longer is a d17. why is it nobody gets this.

there is a reason they have turbo cams. and its not because it works better NA.

its hard enough for everyone to get a b16 to 200 and you wanna do it with its red headed step child? good luck.
