Default B16B or B18CR in Civic 87 (AF)

Hey all,

This is my ride below:

I built it from scratch it had been thrown away by the past owner. I just love the car... For now its running on a d15b 3 stage vtec motor.

I am wanting to move up to a b16b or b18cr engine. Here in my country (mauritius) the b16b is more expensive and both are rare to come by. I have been researching and hoping to make a clean swap with Hasport mounts. i would be buying both the engines stock standard

So what i wish to ask you guys is:

1. If i go B series do i have to weild the chassis to hold the power before the swap or i can do it progressively after the swap.

2. which b series motor is better i mostly do 400m drags..and daily drive.. so i need a runner and winner.

So please advice on these issues and if any other mods would be need to keep going, i will be adding d2 coilovers to keep the ride in check. for now am running stock shocks and car is floating above 170km/hr

And i have adopted front and rear brakes from a b18cr from the beginning so stopping should not be a issue.

I hope to get some advice.

Regards

Idk why non of the ppl from this forum have help you out yet.As far as what's going to need to be done to get one of these motors in your car I can't help you.I can help you out about which motor to choice. I'd say go with a b18cR I heard the b16b really lacks torque bellow 6000.You might be able to make more mid range hp and tq with cams but it might not be the best daily driver with a set-up like that. The b18cR has great hp and tq.b18cR is faster in the 1/4 mile you should be able to do 13's just like all the rest of the civic guys.

Hey,

thank you for your advice.

Am definately making my mind strong for the b18cr engine... heard too many good things about it in all honesty....

All i need is to confirm with the importer which would be around tuesday.

Can someone please comment on weather or not i have to make chassis mods to the car? to hold the new found power of the b18cr????? do i need a roll cage... my whole wish with this car is that it should be a silent sleeper for my daily drive to work and back... and then in the night should be able to shine on the little roads of our island...

Please help guys.

Regards

Check out the link to my build thread in my signature. I love my GSR. As for torque, you won't find it in any B series motor, go with an F or H series if that's what you're looking for. Read through my thread though and it should answer most if not all your questions about what you will need to do in order to make this work.

And no, as long as your car isn't falling apart at the moment, you don't have to worry about strengthening anything. But keep in mind that both of those motors weigh significantly more than your current D15 so take that into consideration with your suspension, braking, handling, etc.
