Definately get it dyno tuned. This is the best way to find MBT at every rpm point. Getting tuned can be a night and day difference.

As for tranny concerns and falling outta vtec, get tuned and see if you can shift a little higher..

Invest in a set of slicks. Wheel hop kills axles and stress transmissions. Slicks will also drop your times waaay down. One of the best bang for your bucks if you ask me. $300 might get you another half a second.

I'd also try a longer intake and makes sure you have cold fresh air coming in. Hot intake charges kill HP...

Whats the weight of the car and driver total?

lol weight of car and driver is a killer its a full interior 95 gsr so id say about 2600 plus im no small dude im about 250 lbs i know the car would do much better times in a lighter chassis and with a lighter and better driver but its my trap speed im more concerned about. id like to hit the 200 whp mark and if possible hit 13 sec times. my goals for the car arent outrageous just a 13 sec daily driver and im happy

Skunks Tuner2 like vtec around 5-5500. If your shift out at 8600 in a gsr tranny you should be landing around 6700 or 6500 rpm's.....how are you falling out of high camcam

This is right, my GSR only drops about 2000rpm when I shift. I also don't let off the gas but that will come with experience.

Don't change your tires yet. Please get some more seat time. If you are not getting good times on street tires switching to slicks or drag radials will just yield bad times with those. In my case on Summer performance tires with the OEM suspension I was able to cut 2.0-2.1's, I have yet to try on my Falkens with the Koni Eibach suspension, maybe 1.9-2.0.
I also averaged over 100 runs a year. Seat time is your friend.

As for gearing. Wait. Get it tuned, VTEC maybe set incorrectly or even your fuel cut.

It'll be more than that. My friend was cutting 2.3's running 13.6ish. Next event with slicks and nothing else changing. Cut 1.6-7 and ran 12.5-6. Every 1/10 off the 60' usually equates out to 2/10th's off your overall ET. Work on your short track and everything will fall into place.

Maybe you should look at the stamp on the transmission and identify what you have.

no im def not going to slicks yet and i def need more seat time this was my first time ever running the car and only ran 3 runs so i know i need more practice. as far as fuel cut and vtec engagement the car needs a serious all around dyno tune the person who street tuned only tuned it to be able to drive it safely ignition timing wasnt really messed with for optimal power nor was cam timing i know the car can pick up alot more power from tuning. this weekend was just to see where im at now i have my pen and paper ready to do more homework lol. first up different header and tune, then i wanna swap out my stock mounts for solid mounts and get some koni yellows and ground control springs, then more seat time

stamp means nothing because i have seen ls and gsr with same stamp the car is a 95 gsr i did the 80 mph test in 5th gear im at 4000 rpm but that can be wrong if my tach is off which it is by 10 mph or so at 4000 rpm im at 83 mph

I just took my GF's car for a ride. Jdm gsr in a 97 EX coupe, to see where it drops out, Shifting out @ 8100rpms. Stock everything but a manifold and intake and shifting out she falls right back to around 6600-6800rpms.

If you're barely crossing the line @ shifting into fourth, it sounds as if you have a ls tranny..

y80 can be two different trannies

a b18b1 or a b18c..

Majority of the time what i do for people is street tune their car.. Reading plugs, and getting the AFR pretty close to steady. Then a dyno trip would be in order to fine tweak things.. this saves yourself time and money, instead of spending 1-2 hours on a dyno, you spend maybe 30-45mins.. Then another street tune or track tune.

Street tuning puts "real" world load on the car, where aerodynamics actually come into play.. putting the car on the dyno with straps doesn't do that unless you have a good dyno where you can change load settings.. some shops do not have this. And thats why track tuning will yield better 60's and short track setups.

yea i know but the guy i had tuning it dosent take the time to do any of that he just tunes air fuel and make sure timing is what it should be in stock form and yes we kinda figured once we tracked it that its probably a ls tranny which i was actually planning on getting a b16 or itr tranny if i could only good thing about the tranny is it has a lsd

Tuning isn't going to change the mph THAT much.
